Hi all,

I havent posted here before, so bare with me!

I am off to New York on Feb 11th and am travelling in Economy, booked for 299 per person.

I have just been into 'manage my booking' and have been quoted 289 per person, return, to upgrade to premium economy.

Can any of the experts tell me if this is a good deal?

And is it worth waiting to try and upgrade at the airport?

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Yes thats what I thought. It does seem to be a very good price.

If you purchase an upgrade this way, through 'amend my booking', do you still get the extra flying club miles for travelling in PE even though you booked in Economy?

Also, does anyone know what the PE section on the A340 aircraft to Newark is like?

Any good experiences?

Hi and welcome to the site.

£589 round trip for PE to NYC is a good price so I would snap it up, that way at least you know you are certain to be flying PE as if you wait until the airport there might not be any availability.

You will earn full PE miles & TP's if you upgrade this way, it is only if you are OpUp'd or upgrade with miles that you earn the originally booking class miles.

The PE on the A340 is a 2/3/2 config on 5 rows on the right as soon as you board through the L2 door. It will have the new purple leather seats and you will get the full PE service as outlined on the VS site. It might also be worth reading some TR's for this route/service to get an idea of what to expect.

Out of interest, do you only get the opportunity to upgrade online if you booked on the VS website?

When I have booked through VHols or Expedia etc in the past I have never seen that option in MMB...

Yes, if you want to upgrade a VH booking you need to do it through VH, same with any travel agent. Also that option is only available if there is space in the higher cabin for you to upgrade too.

I dont believe this option is available on miles plus money though, I have a MPM booking and there is no option to upgrade.

It is more difficult to do a MPM upgrade and this won't be available to do online. There will need to be MPM availability and then you will need to pay the extra plus have the extra miles deducted from your FC account, so the only way to do this is by calling FC.

The upgrades available through the MMB section on the VS site are for full revenue fares only.

Just give FC a call then, they will be able to do the upgrade for you. The reason it *may* have gone is if there are no longer any PE seats available, but again FC will be able to advise you best.
