I have received a folder from Virgin Holidays containing vouchers for the hotel and transfers in Barbados, but no actual tickets for the flight to and from MAN. As a Virgin virgin, is this usual? They also sent them out twice, so at least I've got a spare set if one gets lost!

I intend checking in online but to get to the actual check-in desk as soon as it opens to try and get one row of two seats at the rear of the plane. I've requested the last row of three for now after taking advice from this really helpful forum. I've also joined the Flying Club - in the hope that this won't be my only trip with Virgin.

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this flight. We usually fly charter, but this is a surprise for my husband's birthday so he won't know where he's going until we get to the airport!

When I have travelled with VH there has been no actual airline ticket. A call to VS quoting your VH holiday reference number will result in them giving you your actual VS reference number. This will allow you to use the online booking service, to pre book certain seating and to complete online check in if you wish. Hope this helps.

Basically VH now use e-tickets for most of their holiday destinations. Pretty soon paper airline tickets will disappear completely and everything will become electronic.

IATA wanted all airlines to stop using paper tickets by mid-2008 but that doesn't look to have gone quite to plan as I had a paper ticket from VH for my ORD flights the other week. The VS check-in agent at LHR was quite surprised when I handed her my paper ticket [:w]

It works the same way as any other airline e-ticket where you just give check-in your airline booking reference (which should be quoted somewhere on a piece of paper you have just received)

BUT you should have a printed itinerary and that (or something else) should state that your ticket is an e-ticket...

I have already done my seat request ages ago so it looks as though I have an e-ticket.

You probably do, but - personally - I always like to make sure... somewhere it should SAY what type of ticket you have.

Always better to have everything certain than just 'turn up at the airport and hope'...

Both LHR and LGW have a VH help/ticket desk if any problems do arise once you get to the airport.

Found it!
I re-checked all of the documentation and found a sheet tucked in the back of the folder which clearly says E Ticket. I must have missed it in all the excitment!
