OK - this is a rant. It transpires that Dragonbaby 'may' (almost certainly) have left a fairly nice piece of jewellery in the side of her suite on our last trip with VS (which was admittedly at the back end of August).I didn't know she had taken it away with her [V].Today (when I found out) I have contacted VS and told to ring another number which I did. After an interrogation from the operator as to why I've been so long reporting it (she obviously doesn't have a teenage daughter) I've ben advised that after 90 days all electronic records regarding left property are deleted and no hard copies are kept [?] so even it was handed in I couldn't claim it.
I was told to claim on my insurance, which I won't (DB can save up and buy herself a replacement. A fairly expensive snooze really). To add insult to injury, she also told me that another passenger had probably taken it anyway.
Rant over.

Another passenger or the crew or the cleaners ... I left a very nice pair of new Gucci driving shoes under 7A returning from SFO in June. Rang Virgin, rang the airport number that they provide, nothing of course. I know they were there, someone else did too before they hit lost items [V].

DL .... I would be very surprised if records of property found are deleted after such a short space of time, if for no other reason than VS would have to keep them for accounting purposes when the items are disposed of/sold. Whether they make them available to you is another matter.

It would not surprise me if lost property is disposed of after 90 days, I know thats not really what you wanted to hear ! The most likely thing is that property is sent to auction on a fairly regular basis.

Perhaps a politely worded letter to FC may yield a little more ?

I spoke to another person after the first operator who gave the same response. I too am fairly sure there is some form of audit trail regarding lost property (for accounting purposes) and am sure that if said item was found it would end up in an auction if not claimed.
What really peeved me was the general attitude. I could almost hear a subliminal 'well you can afford to travel in UC so what's a bit of bling?'
Quite a lot actually, as DB bought it with her own money (still cross with her for not telling me she was wearing it, but there you go).Letters to FC or head office seem pointless these days, regardless of the severity of the incident (no response to an incident I reported on board to the FSM of a crew member 'pretending ' to spit in passenger food).
slink -hope the person currently wearing your shoes suffers corns, in-growing toenails and bunions (which of course they won't seeing as Gucci driving shoes are butter soft).
