Tier points zeroed on Silver renewal

From the V-Flyer FAQ on Tier Points 'When your anniversary for Silver status arrives, your TP balance is not zeroed like it is on Gold tier, instead it stays as it is but TP are only valid for 12 months at a time.'
The other day I had 15 TP's (5 from Nov 07, 10 from Nov 08). VS have processed my Silver renewal now & zeroed my TP's balance down to nil. Surely I should still have 5 TP's, as the 5 from November are still valid?
I've just read the FC T&C's on the Virgin website & clause 2.14 about Silver membership makes no mention of zeroing down TP's on Silver Renewal. (Clause 2.15 about Gold membership does though).
Any thoughts?
Thanks
James

Unless there has been a change I'm not aware of, tier points in a silver account shouldnt zero on renewal. You should be able to keep earning in order to reach Gold. I would call flying club to query this with them.
Thanks,
Sarah

So once renewal has been reached do the extra/additional TP's you have start towards your next renewal?

Neil - that was my understanding, yes. Any extra TP's you have over the 10 needed for Silver renewal stay valid (for 12months from when they were earned) and count towards subsequent Silver renewal (or Gold qualification). I'll give VS a day or two to see if the problem corrects itself then give FC a call and hope I get through to someone in the UK (or is it only V-Hols who have an Indian call centre?)

Good luck with that one, my last 4 or 5 calls to FC have all resulted in it being answered by a person whose first language isn't English and some very frustrating conversations.

Could this be the old website bug that only shows TPs earnt since the last status change? eg I hold 23 TPs - I can tell by looking at how many I need to get Au, but the summary at the top only shows 11 earnt - I earnt these 11 after gaining Ag status.

David - no, it's not that bug. They have zeroed my TP's completely and it says I need 10 TP's to requalify for Silver. I'll have one battle at a time with Flying Club I think (current one is missing Avis miles), then we'll go for the TP's, then the missing miles for pre-ordered duty free.

Good Luck Kraken, I renewed silver on my LGW-LAS PE flight earlier this year.
I thought the 3 points from the return flight a week later would have gone towards this years renewal, but they zeroed mine as well. When I enquired about it I was told, rather abruptly, that the points on my return flight would not count to this years renewal as they fell within the 13 month window I originally had to renew, and therefore would not be carried forward! (Hopefully that makes sense!)
I knew I would not make silver again next year so I didn't really make a fuss about it, when mine runs out in March I will be a lowly red again[:(].

papadoc - Sounds like a load of rubbish to me - I had a similar experience to yourself - LRoM put me on the straight and narrow. The reason behind this seems to be the order in which awards are credited. The best I got out of FC was that they'd put a note on my account so that if there was a dispute come renewal it could be sorted out.

But you do need 10 TPs to requalify for silver, do you not? (i.e. you need to earn 10 more TPs over the requalification period)
How many does it say you need for Gold?

I re-qualified for Silver on my outbound flight on 1st November (FC account updated with a message a day or two later saying 'You're staying at Silver' or words to that effect). On 8th Nov I got 5 more TP's on the return flight home, it's those 5 that have been zeroed down by the renewal process / whatever month-end sweep VS do on the FC renewals. There is 11 months of validity left on those 5 TP's.

Hmm... maybe I won't give FC a call - I've just looked at the Tier Points FAQ on the VS website (Flying Club link on left, then Contact us, then FAQ) and it clearly says;
Q How long are my tier points valid for?
A At the start of your membership, you will be able to accumulate tier points. Your tier points will be reset at the point at which you are upgraded to a higher tier or at the end of your membership year.
This does seem to fly in the face of clause 2.14 of the Flying Club T&C's which clearly says that Silver membership TP's do not reset on renewal. Does anyone think it's still worth me calling FC & attempting to do battle with the overseas call centre?

I think the website is right; I experienced similar annoyance. The points are technical valid, as you say, for another 11 months However, this validity is only for the purposes of attaining gold. They are not valid for the purposes of renewing silver.
