I'm due to fly out to LAS tomorrow. Just seen LGW to LAS flight is cancelled for today - Not good news. Does anyone know why its been cancelled? Do you think everyone will be put on tomorrows flight? [?]
Edit to title of thread by mod for clarity......Nick

Expertflyer is still showing tomorrow's flight as wide open down the back, but I don't know if that has been updated since today's cancellation.
VS43 LGW 12/15/08 10:45 AM
LAS 12/15/08 1:30 PM 744
J0 D0 R0 Z0 W1 S1 K1 Y7 B7 L7 M7 Q7 X7 N7
Edit-last night's flight was four hours late taking off, and isn't due in until nearly 2pm this afternoon. I assume this is still a knock on delay from
the ice delays.Nick

Could it be because of the
storm Scrooge said was forecast for Las Vegas?

The storm shouldn't have anything to do with it, I am guessing that when you combine the hiccup in LGW ops plus a light load VS saw a way to fix their schedule quickly.

Hi Guys I'm on the crew now stuck in vegas for another 24 hours - oh joy! Yes we are operating back tomorrow so i guess flight will be full now as we were supposed to have about 150 spare seats home today.
I dont know the reason yet but when i find out i will let you know.

Just been told that cancellation is due to 'lack of aircraft'. Rather ambiguous but it's all we're gonna get!

Hmm, now where did we put that 400Ton plane..
Seriously, for people to claim on their Insurance, they will need something a little more accurate.

My guess would be that Scrooge's assessment that it is a way to get the schedules back in line with minimum disruption is probably not far from the mark.
If there is no slack within the fleet to fill in and allow catch up,then one round trip cancellation, although a major PITA for those involved, is the most cost effective solution.

I am wondering if it had anything to do with VROM having to shut an engine down on the 9th, I am guessing on returning to LGW the aircraft was pulled from service to have an engine switched, I will have to dig a little and find out where/if it has operated the last few days.
Edit : Ok VROM didn't fly on the 10th, so I am as I said guessing that MX did an engine swap leaving the fleet a plane down.

today's VS43 has been cancelled as well. Probably connected with yesterdays VS44 being stranded in LAS due to snow (!).
Today's BMI direct flight to LAS left on time this morning, so LAS is back open again.

Did yesterdays 43 even make it to Vegas ? When I checked it had diverted to LAX.
It seems that LAS is expecting more snow today, looking out of the window the cloud level looks to be at about 3000 ft !

Thank god we left on monday just before the snow! The captain was worried that we'd get stuck as they're not geared up for de-icing a 747 in LAS!

Gatwick airport site shows VS43 to LAS cancelled (again) today, but 'VS143' to LAS left at 10am (ie 45 mins earlier than the normal schedule). Not entirely sure what's going on there!

The 24 hour delayed flight will have become the VS 143 and then they prob just combined with today's flight due to light loads.

well, maybe they were not combined as today (Saturday) there are still 2 flights going to LAS -VS43 and VS143 (both showing as delayed by an hour) -
It would appear therefore that they are still catching up from earlier in the week, so some people would have lost 2 days at least from their holidays. So far this week VS 43 was cancelled on Sunday, Weds and Thursday. I have an interest in this a a friend on mine is due on VS 43 tomorrow!

Just to let you know, we are about to get hit again, with the temp hovering right around freezing there is a chance of snow, fingers crossed.
