And following on from last year (hence the tradition) I am going to ignore the rules and wish everyone a merry Christmas....

To some of you I would also like to say, Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

And yes it's also tradition for me to post this a little early (In regards to GMT) just due to the fact that I have to work tonight and am now going to bed [:p]

Humbug.

But I did enjoy Her Majesty's annual message this year and hope that she and the Royal Family had a peaceful day. Also Their Graces.

This has been a difficult year for many -- personally, professionally and, speaking for myself, mentally. Nonetheless, in the midst of all this fearsome, gathering cloud there must remain a silver lining or two, where good triumphs over evil and the promise of life is lifted above its degradations (cf Hull).

From a V-Flyer perspective, I want to single out three of these argentate instances for celebration on this hallowed final day of 2008:

* The amazing commitment and love of the Bazzes. With her own courage and fortitude well-documented by Bazz, we also learned exactly how amazing was his own. Bazz's missives and postings were inspiring and gave us all someone to cheer for this year. May these two well-loved members of V-Flyer continue to see better days, every day, in 2009.

* #2 & #3 are the weddings of Dominic and Neil. Great good God, not to each other! I mean their own respective nuptuals. Whether it was a confident, planned and lovely celebration between two strappingly handsome chaps like Dom's or...umm...well, at any rate, Neil's wedding was nice too! In the midst of the economic Hindenburgian immolation all around us, the commitment of love these four showed us are a reminder of what wins out in the end. No Neil, it's not Hull FC! It's love. Love, love, love. And it's all you need.

Happy new year to one and all.
