Hi All,

This is my first post!

Can anyone tell me what ticking the honeymoon couple button when booking a holiday with Virgin Holidays actually does or gets you?

My wife are going to NY in 6 days and we ticked the honeymoon couple button as it will be our honeymoon.... no surprise....without knowing exactly what it does. We didn't book a special honeymoon holiday package just a normal holiday.

Many thanks for your help!

Welcome aboard [y]

I seem to remember reading that it gets flagged to the hotels so they can, if they want to, upgrade rooms etc. I also remember it being 'subject to availability' too, so don't expect too much.

As an aside, don't forget that your flight tickets and passport names MUST match exactly otherwise you will not be able to fly. Marriage certificates etc. are no longer acceptable. Just in case you have put her maddied name on the booking...

So these upgrades would be free? Do couples tend to get upgrades? If so, why not always tick the box?

Thanks for your quick reply guys. Interesting comments, let's just hope that the hotel isn't too busy and is kind enough to help us out with some nice extras. Thanks for the info about the passport situation, luckily my wife has kept her maiden name after marriage so this won't be a problem. So the ticked box is only to do with the hotel and not the flight? I was hoping maybe a glass of champagne on the flight might be thrown in :)

What do you think about mcmbenjamin's comment about ticking the box, it's a good point, surely people must do this all the time without actually being on honeymoon. Do you think Virgin makes notes of these?

Hi, and welcome.
The hotel can /will ask for proof that it is your honeymoon (to ascertain any benefits offered are legitimately being received) so I'd recommend taking your marriage certificate with you. They also usually stipulate that the 'honeymoon' is taken within a certain time period after the wedding ceremony. Don't be expecting too much in the way of extras (if any at all) - even as a VH FVC member the benefits/ perks offered at receiving hotels aren't exactly overwhelming.
If you're after bubbly onboard (and are not in UC) I'd recommend pre-booking a bottle of champagne from the duty free pre-order service.

A couple who I know got exit row seats FOC when traveling as a honeymoon couple with Virgin Holidays. Am unsure if these were pre-allocated, or if they got the benefit of a generous check-in agent, but they got the seats for free (they got B/C seats - the A seat with the evacuation slide restricted legroom was left empty too). [y]

As a sideline, I am 99% sure that it was Virgin Holidays who had to pulp a print-run of their Virgin Weddings brochure a few years ago, as the line 'all prices are based on 3 adults sharing a room' had found it's way into the brochure.[:0]

On pretty much all the resort hotels in the Caribbean and Fiji (these I know from experience) there will be certain honeymoon specials for couples who fit the critera (and can prove it!).
These are usually something like a fruit bowl in the room with a congratulations card. Sometimes it is a bottle of bubbly or a comp massage but these are being cut back a bit on new contracts.
There is no extra charge for these services, it is just something to make the couple remember how nice a time they had and how well the were looked after in the hope that at certain anniversaries the experience will be repeated back at the same hotel.

These benefits are usually indicated in the relevant brochures and are pretty standard in the caribbean/tropical resorts. The poster is off to New York so I think it's less likely that anything like this will be offered (none of the NY hotels offered by VH appear to offer honeymoon bonuses). It would be nice if I were to be proved wrong though [:)].

Have just had a look through the contracts with all of the 5* New York hotels we use with one of our suppliers and you are right that not a single one mentions anything about honeymoons specials.
Tick it anyway!!

We 'ticked the box' for our honeymoon in 2005 which we'd booked with Virgin Holidays to LA and Hawaii. We didn't get anything special on the flight there or back (we had already paid for PE seats anyway, so we were happy with that). In LA where we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, we got a free bottle of bubbly on arrival. In Hawaii we stayed at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel - we'd paid for an 'Ocean View' room, but were upgraded free to an 'Ocean Front' room, which had it's balcony litterally overhanging the beach. They also gave a us a 'welcome basket' including a bottle of bubbly and some chocs. Not once were we asked for proof that we were 'just married' (my wife was travelling under her maiden name to save any problems).

A good few years back, had booked VH to Table bay in Capetown, PE seats, & our honeymoon.
internal transfer desk at LHR, Op upgrade to UC !! (although pre-suites). One of the reasons we have stayed with VS.
CPT Hotel staff kept turning up at room with bottles of wine, Sushi? interupting our 'settling-in/ unpacking' [:o]!!

Go expecting nothing, so anything else is a nice surprise- also suggest a photocopy of your Marriage cert, in case you lose.

Have a great one!!
