Odd place to chose, especially from Europe!

No news from anywhere other than the IHT however

I agree, there may be many other places some might argue better.

However, PR is a beautiful place, I love it, great people, fantastic island, beautiful scenario, lots of history and lots to enjoy. Greatly underdeveloped in my opinion. I'd therefore be interested to see if this happens!

I also note the comment about cruises, lots berth in San Juan so maybe this is related to cruise lines rather than scheduled. Let's see?

It would be nice if it happens.

VS have flown to Puerto Rico before with the aircraft being chartered by Princess Cruises.

Main news story says 80% of seats for Princess Cruises...

There are a number of cruise ships being based in San Juan next year though I am guessing this will not be a daily flight at least to start.

Also AA offers a lot of connections to the smaller islands through AE, so it could make people lives a little easier.

Interesting route ... though if there is cash to be made from the steady flow of cruise passengers then its a good idea for VS.

Thanks,
Sarah

Would make a lot of sense with the increasing popularity of cruising and the tie in between Virgin Cruises and Sky Travel.

Just to split hairs, I am reading that it 80% of the seats are being held for RCL pax not Princess, from what I am seeing RCCL will be basing 3 ships there in 2009, meaning 7000+ pax have to make it to San Juan every weekend.

So, if one were to book a trip on such a flight as this, given that 80% of the seats may be cruisers, would the in flight service be the same as normal (no jokes about variability please)?

The company has said that the rumours are untrue and their official response is 'It is not true that Virgin Atlantic will be flying between London and Puerto Rico'

I notice they say london rather than the uk?? Maybe manchester lol???

Good point, if the first flight isn't scheduled until Nov '09, then VS may not want details in the public domain for a while.

I've heard that Virgin Atlantic will be starting the San Juan route this November, Does anybody know what date the new route will be starting? Do you know if the aircraft opperating the route will be a A340 or a 747? or if could be the aircraft from the suspended Mumbai route? Do you know when tickets go on sale, because I have just looked on the Virgin Atlantic website and they don't have the tickets on sale yet.

Reply to email asking when the route would be on sale:

Dear Jake

Thank you for your email.

Virgin Atlantic is constantly evaluating numerous new route opportunities.

Currently we don't have any definite plans to fly on this route in the near future.

We do monitor any changes in the market place and will re-evaluate our studies when the need arises.

However, new route plans remain confidential until we release news to the press.

Thank you for contacting Virgin Atlantic.

Kind Regards
