A couple of friends of mine have about 24K Flying Club miles each in their accounts and are planning to head down to Adelaide next year, and Singapore Airlines would be the best option in terms of routing.

Anyone know if there are upgrade options using FC miles, or other clever use of their miles? They will be down in Adelaide for a while, so may be able to use their outbound earned miles toward their return trip too, if that helps.

Unfortunately sq will not do an upgrade reward with vs miles, and will only book a reward as a 'return' in terms of miles, so unless there is a sale on nice sq seats and/or they want a short flight which can be purchased for the 24k miles, I would say they are out of luck. Sorry.

Maybe they can use their miles towards an economy to PE upgrade out to Hong Kong and then get Cathay Pacific from there?

We've been looking into this for our own trip tail end of this year. Agree, its frustrating that SQ (given they're part of same Group)don't honour the upgrade ability. So one option is to use some upgrade potential for the long LHR-HKG leg as you mention. Could then carry on to SYD with VS, as the transfer from Syd-Adelaide is only a couple of hrs (and the HKG-SYD is an overnighter and gets into SYD at 7am). They'd also be accumulating more miles this way. Although one extra flight..

I think the idea of the extra flight brought on one of those brow creases - but I'll run it past them as an option. [;)]

Pete,If this were done your friends would need to stop off in HKG (either for 6 hours on the VS238, checking in again on the VS200, or overnight if using the VS200)as they can't split the cabin they travel in (ie PE and Ec) if there is no break in travel.Extra flight and a stopover of some kind =even more creased brows.

I think if they were flying through HKG, they'd probably want to visit, hence my thought they could do Cathay Pacific onto Adelaide direct after a bit of sightseeing.
