Our initial plans of a week lazing on the beach have been scuppered (due to babysitting)
[sorry Jake, St Lucia wk now a non-starter]

4 day break at end of Feb- also for miles/TP's - looking at Boston, although likely very cold [8D] but good offer on at Jury's at Back bay?

However Dubai as an alternative? will it be warm enough, economic - in terms of living expenses. or not worth it for 4 days?

Dubai would be great for four days. Prefect amount of time.

Not been to either city, but Ive always wanted to go Boston - And it is supposed to be really nice in the winter. Just wrap up warm.

Dubai wins hands down for me in Feb

I love Boston, but boy will it be cold at that time of year and if you are unlucky to get rain it could mean you don't get to do/see all you want. I would also say Dubai for this trip but def make sure you go to Boston, just maybe when it is slightly warmer (Jury's is a fantastic hotel however, so try and stay there when you go)

You used the words 'economic - in terms of living expenses' in your post.

While many have already fallen on the side of Dubai, and yes the $ is pretty tough against the £ right now, Dubai is NOT a cheap/'economical' place to STAY. Flights, yup - they're cheap. Hotels/food/drink.... NOT.

Just make sure you spec out what you think you'll be spending before getting there. [y]

Yep had a concern on the food/drink issue in dubai, what we looking at london prices, normal uk prices, US prices?

Seems to be obvious split on those who like the warmth & those who like the cities!!

I have booked myself a trip to Boston in September as the current sale fares are just too tempting not too. A quick search at the hotel costs and they are quite similar to NYC.

I'd vote for Boston. To me, winter is the best time of year there. As long as you've got a warm coat it shouldn't be a problem. Winters are quite dry. There's less tourists in Boston in Winter, and seeing the North End Church (from the Paul Revere story) covered in Snow was amazing

We're equipped for the cold, as NYC @ -15 (been there & got the down jacket!!)[:0]

Price for price, with option to return in PE, Boston may well win this time, as MCO in May & SYD/PER/HKG in Nov.. So we'll get some heat at some point..[y]

Or to throw another destination into the mix - Washington? I went there in February a few years back, got very lucky with the weather (we wore T-shirts and ate ice cream!)... and there's a Jury's there too! There's lots to see and do there.

I loved Washington when I went in August but not sure about the cold winter time. Alot of the main sites are outdoor in the open.

Boston would be my choice. I like DC too, but got stuck there in Feb 07 when transferring to Denver. The snow caused all the United internal flights to be cancelled.

Boston's not that bad in the grand scheme, New England/inland Mass/upstate NY would be a lot worse. No ice storms on the coast. I have fond memories of meandering around Harvard Square in Cambridge in the snow, the worse that can happen to you is that you have to park a car outside and spend a half hour getting rid of an inch of ice off of it in the morning!

Having been in the same situation, I've gone for Dubai, as I've never been before. Boston would have got my vote otherwise

Re Boston - stayed there a few times, the most recent visit being September. That time, we opted to stay just outside in a little place called Winthrop by the Sea. One of Boston's best-kept secrets and just a couple of train stops puts you right in the harbour area!

Thanks for all the advice. Have now postponed this little ditty, following major bookings to SYD/PER/ADL/HKG. However seems to of been topical, and will def investigate BOS once the weather warms
