A general question on Virgin Atlantics inflight entertainment, to watch the movies do you need to bring headphones onto the flight to listen to the sound or are these provided for you??

Welcome to V-flyer.

Headphones are provided for you but some people like to bring their own such as Bose QC noise cancelling ones. You certainly don't have to go out and buy some

The sound is a lot better with your own headphones, even just Ipod ones

Although the Freebie ones do their job, not the best at blocking out the background noise,so you end up with them very loud to compensate(which isn't the best for your ears) strongly suggest take some of your own (if you've already got some for ipod/stereo etc)

Agreed. Sometimes the headphones supplied have faulty jacks / broken wires as they are re-used. (I actually found some VS headphones in a drawer the other day from the days when they use to let you take them away...)

I can't justify the cost of good active noise cancelling headphones for a one, or possibly two, long haul flights a year, but bring along my relatively cheap pair of 'in ear' style headphones (Sennheiser CX300) and they do the job admirably.

Damien, try looking at these noise cancelling headphones, they only cost around £30 and they work brilliantly, i am on my second pair ( left the first ones on the plane[:I] ) now and they work a treat at blocking out the engine noise on a plane, i only fly a couple of times a year so they are ideal as they arent really that expensive.

The reviews on this site are very positive as well.

I never use the headphones supplied on any aircraft as I always have my own iPod earphones with me that I prefer using.

I currently have these which are not only comfortable but work a treat at blocking out background noise.

Just to get all tech..the majority of the noise is air flow..but yes do invest in a pair of noise canceling headphones, honestly it makes the flight a lot easier to deal with.

However, size isn't everything in headphones, you could end up looking like a Cyberman!

Forget the Cyberman look (and the problem of fitting them in your carryon). I have a pair of these:

(sorry for the lousy link formatting - if someone can fix that, I'd appreciate it)

They're small, reasonably good noise cancellation, light, good battery life. And they're much better than the freebies you get on board.

God if you have your own - BRING THEM!!

From my economy days they were so bad, whole batches were faulty and passengers were always asking for a new pair!!
