Hi, I hope someone can help me.

We have booked flights from Manchester to MCO in feb and are travelling for the first time with our 10 month old son. We have booked PE seats and he will be travelling on my lap. I have requested a skycot and am wondering if any kind v-flyer knows the location of the skycot rows?
I have pre booked our seats on line just in case our request is not successful but the only ones left are in the bubble and I am worried about fellow travellers attitudes towards us if we are sitting upstairs with a little one [:(]
He is a very happy, content little boy and I'm sure he will be a treasure but being a first time mum I have turned into a serial worrier!
Kind regards
amanda

Not entirely sure, I do not think they are upstairs on this config plane.

I believe they are at the front of PE downstairs, which means there are only 4 seats, i.e 2 on each side.
Not sure about PE in the middle downstairs.

Haven't flown on one of the LGW 744's for a while, but as far as I can remember the bassinet positions in Premium Economy are:

Main Deck
80AC
80HK

Upper Deck
70AC (VLIP/VGAL/VROS/VROM/VROY)
70HK (VAST/VTOP/VXLG)

HI,

Hope you don't mind me hijacking your question here Forever 21 but I am also travelling on this flight on the 4th Feb and have a specific query for anyone in the know.

I have been doing some research for my trip to Orlando on the subject of seating.

I am also flying PE both ways and while searching through some other website I have dicovered that quite a few people are really slating the PE seats down stairs on the LGW/MAN fleet of 747's I am aware that the LGW/MAN fleet have not had any refurbs lately (Am I wrong) but does anyone know how good or bad the seating is on this fleet of 747's?

I have my seats booked, 77H&K, 78H&K and 79K and have read the reviews on this website and found them to be generally very good. As I have said I have my seats booked but does anyone know what the chances are of my seats being reallocated to someone else?? I am going to use the online check in as soon as possible before my flight to try and ensure that we get the seats we have booked.

Am not a fussy flier but human nature is that everyone wants the best thats available, especially seeing as all the travellers are over six foot tall!!!

Anyone with some knowledge on the matter I would love to hear from you, and Forever 21 hope you and your family have a super flight, let me know if u are on our flight please.

Hello

Word of caution, we flew with our daughter who had just turned one and she was too big (weight & size) for a sky cot. Will your little one be 10 months when you travel or is he 10 months now.

You may wish to check the restrictions with virgin as the sky cots are generally for younger babies.

In terms of sitting in the bubble, you pay your money and you are entitled to sit where you want, I understand your fears and other passengers can be somewhat disapproving of young children but as you point out your little one is happy and content.

All we did was get the bulkhead upstairs and take toys and she was happy sitting between our legs on the floor.

Hi Amanda

I wouldn't spend time worrying about fellow travellers' attitudes. As long as you're not expecting the crew and the rest of the plane to act as child minders, letting the nipper run riot whilst you're plugged into a combination of the IFE and a copious supply of wine, then I think you'll find the majority of passengers will be more than tolerant.

Good choice of seats, and despite (or perhaps because of) the lack of refurb of this fleet it has the saving grace of upstairs PE - and that does add value to the offering and experience. I guess there's always a chance of being reassigned but my admittedly limited experience is that, unless there's a change of aircraft type, you'll get the seats you selected. The best approach is to keep checking and then OLCI.

Hi everyone,
Thank you mark and tinkerbelle for the heads up on the seating. I didn't expect there to be more than 2 so maybe we have a good chance of being allocated one. I suppose I could call the Virgin desk at Manchester the day before to see if we're lucky.

Missy-tank he will be 10 months when we travel and will probably fit into it easily (he is only diddy - 15lb now) but getting him to sleep in it will be another story altogether. The world is such an interesting place to him at the moment! The extra footspace would come in very handy though.

Hi timoab. We are flying on the 23rd, wish it was sooner, I can't wait now. We did this same route last Feb (me, hubby and baby bump) and had 79AK outbound and 79HK inbound. I reserved the seats on the website and checked in online 24hrs before and had no problems with seat changes. (picked up some bonus flying club miles for checking in online too). Really nice cabin upstairs, I think because there are no centre seats it feels a lot more private.

I guess what has brought on this fretting is last year when we travelled there were a few raised eyebrows when a family were boarding with there 2 girls aged about 8. The poor dad found himself explaining to fellow PE travellers that they where well behaved before we had even got on the A/C!

Thanks a million everyone for your helpful replies

Hi Forever21,

Thanks for your message and don't worry about your flight, I am sure it will go well and certainly don't concern yourself what other people think- It is your holiday after all!

Thanks for your comments on our seating, I am really looking forward to it!

Will write up a travel report on my return, is there anything I can ask/find out for you and report back upon my return?

Bulkhead seats are usually held back for people who need the bassinets/ skycots, so suggest get to check-in at reasonable time, as these aren't bookable at OLCI (others, more wise than me may correct if wrong)

For info, and piece of mind, mini NH (now 3&half) flew Cape town 12+ hours at 10 weeks old, done East Coast US good few times up till age of 2 & half. I wouldn't be too concerned about the trip, if anything they seem to 'crash out' sooner, saying that if they do rage, seems to knock them out for longer so all the groaning nearby is soon forgotten. [;)] Plenty of walking around, good for the old DVT prevention as well...

You're fly to MCO, its expected to have high Infant/Child ratio, don't get worried about it, at the end of the day PE or any class is not a private jet, its a form of public transport, and as long as you're being reasonable and doing everything within reason nobody should bother. [}:)]
Also VS crew are generally superb when it comes to traveling with the little ones.
