Mauritius Panic

Hi all,
We've got a big family hols booked from March 22nd to April 4th to MRU. We're all in premium or upper. HOWEVER, I read on a tripadvisor forum that Virgin are stopping the MRU route....is this true and if so from when? I assume they're also flying old Airbus aircraft on such an unpopular route?
the silver lining? My in laws are in premium on the outward leg as there weren't enuf reward seats....could the flight be emptier given the current state of the economy? If so, what is the best way of securing an upgrade via miles or cash?
thanks

VS stops MRU flights April 26th to November 8th, so you will be fine.
As for your comment 'they're also flying old Airbus aircraft on such an unpopular route'
All the LHR A/C have the new PE and Upper Class seats and offer exactly the same level of service so I don't understand your comment [:?]

many thanks for this reply - final question
at what point to flying club look at opening up more reward seats on flights if all of them have already been taken? My in laws are in PE on the outbound but FC said they might look closer to the time about opening up seats tho the UC cabin is 70% full already.
might I just be best to wait til the day of departure to ask?

NO, I would start checking a couple of weeks out and make it a daily thing, sometimes seats open up, sometimes they don't, save the airport for the very last desperation try.

You are correct, 69% 346, 31% 343, right now there is no way to even guess at which type you would get.

Perceived wisdom is to try twice, once about 7 days before departure and then two days before departure. On both occasions if the answer is no ask the call receiver to question the revenue department for a further check.
Finally, ask on check in but then you need miles and the right PE fare code. 24 hrs before departure the central booking team handover responsibility for seats to the airport team, so generally there is no point calling Virgin on the day.

Yup, you are right, 60% 340-600 and 40% 340-300. The difference being the size of the plane and then only whether VPort is the IFE on board.
Looking at Expert Flyer you are currently forecast to have a 343 on both legs. Also EF says that UC only has 3 seats free on the outbound but 7 or more on the return. So you've more chance of getting those necessary upgrades coming home than going ...

many thanks - excellent advice. I saw another post about getting guests into the CH. We currently have 4 of us in UC outbound but 2 in PE. Who should we speak to about getting my in laws into the lounge?

I take it you mean 4 travelling in Upper with the in-laws in PE?
If that's the case, just turn up the CH reception as say they are your guests. They will need to show their boarding card though. If they are going to arrive late, just give reception their names to save time later.

yes, 4 upper, 2 PE (in laws) - so we are legally OK to bring 2 guests with us?

Each person flying UC is allowed to take 1 guest in to the CH, so you will be fine.
