Hmm.. A 'new' Economy / PE sale as well, but the PE fares to Boston are >100 dearer, and -apart from IAD - it is only valid until the end of March. [n]

The really cheap PE flights to Boston had to be booked by Jan 7th. Strangely the new flights match the prices charged by BA.

*breaks out in cold sweat*

Good spot - I have just booked a weekend break in UC to Boston and it seems cheaper than the price I was looking at over the weekend - more beer money for us !

The Africa sale was rather tasty too... 30% off on the usual price.

Wow both prices are about equal. I still would rather fly VA though [:D] as in BA club world you have to sit facing someone and I'm sure there are bound to be arguements as to whether the privacy screen should be up or down.

Also, with BA unless you pay full fare or hold Silver, or above, status in EC, you will not be able to pre-select seats when booking. Thus only having access to the dregs that are left at +24hrs when doing OLCI [n][n]

Came across the BA Buisness Class sale going on at the moment.
Now can book for flights up to end December. (Booki by 24th march)
Two adults and 1 child Club World LGW-MCO November/December was coming out at at total of 3,668.80
Very nice!
Well, VA had quoted 4,627 for the same dates, VH 5,553!

So, just to finally chack, I went to VA web site, surprise surprise, a sale on!
Price for UC same dates 3,667.60! 1 different

Also, M + M had come up, (45,000 miles total)bringing total down to 3,447.60

So, booked the VA flights, even though they have not advertised the act that they are going through to the end of the year now (last time I checked last week, sale was only until June and no M + M fares available)

In fact the route I was looking at (IAD) is a actually a bit cheaper now, than it was last week, in the previous sale [8D]

At last, the prices are back on par with the BA NCW sale.

Now of course I face the dilemma of

Do I burn up my FC miles on a redemption booking to IAD, as I fear for their future security / value.

Or do I pony up for the sale fare (Z) thereby adding to my mileage balance, in order to get closer to a double redemption for Mrs Kered & myself for a future free trip.

But then what happens if our miles are devalued in the future, as I really feel that in these challenging times, airlines will offload their mileage liability [:?]

Do you have any evidence that would back up your feeling?

The other way of looking at it is that airlines would look to do all they can to retain their loyal client base in difficult times.

I can see that it would be logical to try and cut back on, (or improve the revenue gained from) the number of points awarded in third party transactions, such as credit cards and hotel deals. But offloading mileage liability would be very sure way of annoying regular passengers, and driving them to other carriers.

Unless, of course, all airlines do it. [;)]

No evidence at all, its just a feeling I have.

I can only imagine that the airlines would love to rid themselves of all those free seats out there. So I can see a dramatic reduction in reward inventory and/or an increase in mileage cost for those reward seats.

Think of like, you have an upper class seat with a bum on it, having only paid for taxes & charges, or you could have a full revenue bum on that seat. Which one, would the airline number crunchers prefer ??

BA certainly reduced their reward seat liabilities with the 50% mileage sale earlier this year. Those with high mileage balances went on a spending spree, so theyre happy. The airline is happy as theyve slashed their future reward seat liability, so its a win win situation.

Somethings gotta give & I fear its going to affect mileage rewards.

However, look at the amount of mileage they cleared off their books, thereby dramatically reducing their exposure to give-a-way seats. While in the process, keeping their high mileage passengers sweet.

Now those passengers will have to earn miles again, by being revenue passengers.

Granted theyve done nothing since, by way of de-valuing milesYet !!

I just cant see how the airlines can sustain all those free seats, when they are doing all in their power to get forward bookings & money in the bank. There seems to be a premium cabin sale almost monthly now.

Great for us, the passenger, of course [8D]

I see BA are now phoning passengers to see if they want to upgrade on some flights, a nice way to stop op-ups if over booked.
