That's not good. Was that caused by after-build defects or Toulouse missing the protection out?

Looking at the end of the report: quote:These include the difficulties faced by the crew in isolating the damaged circuits, the emergency checklist on the plane as well as the standards relating to the modifications to the aircraft carried out for Virgin Atlantic. implies that the problems are wholly after build mods. I bet the emergency checklist issue is that they use the standard Airbus one and didn't alter it when they modded the ac.

But it also says none of the metal covers were ever fitted.
Could turn into an interesting report when finalised.

I really don't see it, if you read the AAIU report it says that the wiring is for mood lighting and schematic drawings indicating where covers should go belonged to VS and not Airbus.

Indeed my reading too, not an Airbus issue but to do with the fitting of the UCS and bar and VS interior by whichever co. did it. Pretty bad news especially if 'a number of ... aircraft' are also found to be at fault and 'significant other issues' remain!
So glad this happened between LHR and SNN and not over the deep Atlantic. Would like to see a VS statement on what is being done to mitigate and fix!

So who did the install of the IFE and mood lighting ? SR ?
That really is electrical 101, protect the loom, hell I knew that as a snot nosed 16 year old working on car looms.

If 'significant issues remain' does that mean that all of these planes are unsafe? Surely if there are known issues and these could put the plane at risk they can't fly it, right?

Exactly, each plane has been checked, one was found to have an issue with the wiring, that was fixed, the rest had the protective plates installed, at least that is what I get from the article.
