Select Voucher Help

I have four select vouchers which I was given in Nov 08. I know that if I use them for flights then the return part of the flight must be completed within 18 months (May 2010) but it also says on the voucher that I have 18 months to convert them into Flying Club Miles.
If I convert them into miles within 18 months then is there a deadline for me to use the miles or do they stay active on my account indefinitely?

Flying Club miles will expire after 3 years of inactivity.
Therefore, as long as you perform any kind of earn/spend transaction at least once every 3 years on your account, they will not technically ever expire.

Thanks - am I right in thinking if I use the vouchers for flights then I don't need to pay taxes & surcharges but if I redeem miles then I do pay?

As far as I know you have to pay taxes and fee's either way.

Taxes and fees are covered if you use them directly for flights. However if you convert them to FC points, and then redeem you will have to cover the taxes and fees.

Really ?? that is interesting, how does HM government let that one slip through the cracks or does VS just eat the fee's ?

They'd better not try and charge me for taxes etc - kind of defeats the object of free flights really![:?]

VS covers them - obviously they control the fare aspect and the fuel surcharges so that would be a zero cost to them, and they pony up the government taxes.
