THere was a thread about this a few weeks ago and I said I would report back as I was in the CH today.

There is indeed a selction of sweets in jars located just in front of the pool table.

All jars were full and there was a range available.

I have taken a small selection away with me for comprehensive analysys.

Pic to follow when I get back next week !

I've never noticed them before. Now we know what happened to the ex-Woolies stock. Will have to bring some little white paper bags in May.

Now you see there is an advantage of travelling with them pesky kids as that's the area mine make for first in Clubhouse, also they tend to pack pockets full so there's always a lovely sweetie there for you during long flight

Always took 2 packet of the shortbread. Mainly for eating when I wake up at silly o'clock in the morning in the first couple of days when in the US.

Luke was mortified when I told him I had found out about this recently, but at least it means he is going to let me book some more UC flights ex LHR so he can get some next time, another reason for loving V-Flyer...

More UC flights - surely a bag of boiled sweets from the supermarket would be cheaper [}:)]

Heavens ! I spend 8 (very nice in UC) hours on a plane (TR will follow) and during that time you all go mad about the sweets !

Pending a full report (I am on holiday you know) I can confirm that the following were available

1 - Choclate Limes

2- Little packs of shortbread

At least in these austere times, no one has had the temerity to discuss the new Haagen Dazs (sp?) ice cream fridges that are now dotted around the place. [}:)][:D]

I remember when it was B&J's. Far superior product in my book.

At least they won't have to worry about people sneaking them off for later.

Oh roll on May. I can see a concerted effort to pick the place clean...

I'll agree with you on that one!

And Haagen Dazs is no way near as good as Ben and Jerry's!!

Here is an update on the CH sweets.

I collected (in the interest of science only) a few specimens and ate er I mean subjected them to strict quality control testing.

Analysis results is that the 'samples' are generally of a high quality with a satisfactory sweet-quotient score.

Samples of the following were taken and tested

Sweet - Maker - Comment

Glacier Fruit - Fox's - OK but not as good as a plain glacier mint[y]
Chocolate Caramel - Lutti - Nicely caramely and chocolaty[y][y]
Liquorice Toffee - Nonsuch - Exactly as it says on the wrapper[y][y][y]
Chocolate Lime - not known - MMMMMMMM !!![y][y][y][y]

There was a sample listed as 'purple wrapped sweet' of unknown maker.

Testing comment is 'where is my beer to take the taste away'.[:$][n]

Conclusion is that 4 of the 5 samples are worthy of the CH but 'purple wrapped sweet' should be removed due to 'what the heck is the flavour' issues.

The samples obviously require further analysis and all v-flyers are asked to take part in this.

When I go next week I will try to remmeber to 'test' them!
