Myself and wifey needed 4 more tier points to renew FC silver, so when we decided to visit my father in BKK last month, instead of doing the sensible direct flight with BA, we (for slightly more money!) booked with Gulf Air via BAH. The 4 legs would give us the tier points needed and also a few extra VS miles.

6 weeks later, the miles have not appeared, despite our card being used at purchase and being handed over at every leg for check in.

Just realised we need boarding stubs for each leg.... Beleive me, when travelling with 2 kids (8 + 3) the last thing on our minds (when trying to make a 50 min connection) is to collect old boarding stubs. However, on checking my hand luggage today, we did find the subs for 3 of the 4 legs. so surely along with our eticket, this would suffice?

So, I called FC - something, thankfully I have not had to do before. I eventually spoke to a human after 17 minutes, and when I was told that without the stubs I would not be able to claim miles or TP for that leg, unless I got written confirmation from GF that I flew. I phoned GF and they would provide a letter for 35!

I phoned back VS and held for another 15 minutes - and was told the same, without the stubs, no miles or TP. I asked to speak to a supervisor and gave up holding after another 25 mins!! Im not exagerating! Nice to know a UK airline is so busy in this climate!

So, is that it? do both myself and my wife miss out on silver for another year (and some miles_ unless I pay 35 to GF?

The attitude to me really was 'we don't care' so no threat of taking our measely 3 or 4 Y/W flights a year would have swayed it.

Just a note - 4 years ago with BA, I did not get a credit for some mileage with AA (internal USA flight) and on phoning, I was told ' not to worry, they will contact AA), they did, and my miles appeared. Last week I renewed my car insurance and had to provide proof of no claims - Tesco insureance, said not to worry, they will contact me old insurance company -the policy was only worth 120 to them!!!

Come on VS - im not worth a fotune to you, but surely I am worth more than this?

Any help / advice really appreacited.

Whilst I sympathise, the problem is - asking a company to waive rules in the current climate may not always work.

The problem with posting points from partners is a pain, but is a long standing pain, and the boarding pass stub rule is the only way I know to get round it.

The 35 from Gulf Air to provide a letter seems extortionate, but maybe it is another sign of the times. [n]

I really sympathise with your situation though unlike Nick I don't think this has much to do with 'current climate' (Nick, you're beginning to be the voice of doom [}:)]) ... more along the lines that at any time, unless your have proof, any airline will leave themselves open to potential scammers. Hence the rule and sometimes we learn the hard way.

I guess it comes down to you deciding whether to pay Gulf the 35 quid they're asking for to get the miles and TPs unfortunately.

I am having the same problem, I lost my boarding passes on our honeymoon in September and only had the return flight, my hubby had 3 out of the 4 and was given full miles/TP's. I called FC to ask if there was anyway around this, they said no. I find it shocking that they were so unwilling to help. I mentioned that I booked the flights myself and they can see by my ETKTS that the FC numbers were in the booking, why should pax have to keep their boarding passes for their incompetence or their lack of technology!

I don't think pax should have to pay the price for their systems not communicating? Also you FC excuse was, well we do not giving me my outbound miles were 'you could of flown with another carrier' Well no I couldn't as you can not use your ETKT out of squence!!!

I think it is just so they can get away with not giving you the points!!!!

RANT OVER!

Yeah, sorry. [:I] I am beginning to think that myself.

I won't drag this thread off topic by ranting about how we have been royally screwed by certain politicians, bankers, lawyers et al, but I think we have. And I think we have a lot more pain to come. [n]

LOL and I agree, but surely an unholy trinity of politicians, bankers and personal greed / stupidity?

Back to the topic. Dominic, weren't your flights on VS? If so I think you have a different type of complaint to the OP and one which VS should be more flexible about, after all they can see from their systems that someone flew. I am not surprised you are peeved.

No my flights were on GF to BKK in J class. Hence the communication problem between GF/VS. Thing is I work in travel, it doesn't take them much time, cost nothing to find out and is so EASY. I have printed a copy of my PNR from work today and will send them another letter and see what they say.

I've had a similar problem getting points from a US Airways flight I took.

US Air, in their ongoing cost cutting at every possible turn, started printing boarding passes on some form of tissue paper, using a wonderful form of invisible ink. Basically, my boarding stub which is an inch by an inch, turned into simply a blank piece of flimsy 'paper' a couple of weeks after my flight, the ink all evaporated or something, and it is completely useless for showing that I took a flight with them. I explained this to Virgin to no avail.

Surely in this day, when every company has computer records of who flew, when, and where, you shouldn't still have to mail in flimsy bits of paper to prove that you were on a flight?

Thanks for your replies, although still no solution. I tried GF again, and someone else gave me an email address to write to, so I have my fingers crossed here... In the meantime, I have written a reply to the VS FC rep who contacted me back, explianing my situation in a little more detail, so I am hoping someone from VS can pick up a phone and confirm all is as I say with GF.... At the end of the day, I was on a discounted ecomonomy ticket, so will only get 25% of the mileage, so we are only talking about 750 miles!!!!! But the loss of the tier point will mean from July, I am a Red member - Do VS really them expect me to fly even more with them to re-earn my silver status (held for 4 yrs)? I know, it will be BA, here I come!!!!!!

Wanted to give an update - credit where credits due etc.....

In the last week, GF changed their mind about the fee and I recevied my certificate of travel yesterday. At the same time, I also got a positive reply from FC saying they were sorry I had so many problems and would contact GF on my behalf.

Im delighted to get this extra bit of service and expect my miles and TP to show soon.

Nice one Virgin!
