Its a bit of a geeky/spoter type question but here goes...

Every summer (usually August) I fly to New York with work and usually upgrade with miles to do it in Upper. The thing is I've never flown upper on a 747 and would like to give it a go. In recent years the 747s get pulled off the New York Route to work elsewhere so it has yet to happen for me. Now in light of the reduced number of flights to NY this year, it is possible that VS45 (for example) will remain a 747 flight thoughout this summer?

Hoping that someone knows the answer to this one.

Many thanks!

The A340-600 is more economical per passenger mile than the 747-400 (744) so you should expect VS to maximise usage of the former and with routes being cut back they will be working overtime to replace 744's when ever possible.

There is a link posted in this thread, that indicates that VS045 / VS046 will be a 747 throughout the summer.

However, we would point out that we have no idea how accurate the information contained in the link is.

That reminds me..

It looks to me that VSs Heathrow fleet is nearly all A340s now ?

Last time I was in LHR, I spent some time watching aircraft movements & didnt see one VS 747. Nor did I see any at the gates, when taxing in or out of the airport.

Are the 747s getting to be the preserve of LGW now ??

Last time I was at Heathrow all I saw were Virgin 747-400's, I saw three all land in a row. I like flighing on the Heathrow 747's they feel so roomey but I don't mind flighing on the A340-600 out of Heathrow, Although it is a nice suprise and treat if you get a Heathrow 747 when flighing out of Gatwick as V.PORT is so much of an improvement over Nova or Oddesey.

VS 45 is scheduled to be daily on a 747 from 29/03 until 24/10 this year and then on Mon/Fri/Sat/Sun from 25/10 onwards.

Also VS 1 to Newark will be on 747 from 01/08 until 12/09 this year.

Great! Knew someone would know the answer.

Flying a 747 always seems like more of an event to me :)

Do all the LHR 747's have V-port? We've been changed to a 747 on our flight to MIA next month.
