The 'Retired Aircraft' section under the 'Virgin Atlantic FAQ' to the left of the screen may help.

Thanks Paul,

Totally forgot that page was there! Could I ask, did all the A320/A321 aircraft operate for Virgin Atlantic or did some operate for Virgin Sun? If the later is true, which ones separated for Virgin Atlantic?

Also does anyone happen to know if the Athens route was served from LHR or LGW or Both?

G-VIBE was called 'Dancing Queen' not 'Spirit of New York'

I used to love the classics, they were more crew friendly (although no crew rest area!) and they all had charater and were all individual! Even G-VGIN which we had a step ladder on so we could reach the topmost bar boxes in the galley!! - you'd never get away with that today with health and safety. And they had tiny seatback screens with just two channels - wouldn't get away with that today either!! And who could forget the spiral staircase to the upper deck!- happy days!

According to airframes.org, it has had both names.

I used to love the classics too. Such a great sound! Does anyone here remember the passenger capacity of these great birds?

Tut tut tut asking the same question in two threads [n].

But you do have the answer [y].

I too loved the classics. PE on those ex-LGW to BOS flights was my fave, the cabin just worked great. Also loved the old armchairs upstairs and the sofa in front of the bar!

Also G-VSSS was originally called 'Queen of the Slipstream' then renamed 'Island Lady' by a girl who won a competition.

As for configs thats a hard one. CAT and RUM were configured the same as were JFK and LAX, but the others were all configured differently. Not sure where you could find that info. I just had a look through all my old paperwork and coudn't find anything, but I expect someone at the Office might be able to help you as I'm sure they have all the old records. Try calling 01293 444990 and ask to speak to ops they should be able to put you through to the right person.

The ex ANZ 742's worked very well (unlike their ex CX nephews!). If i recall correctly the ANZ aircaft had a flt deck bunk, the CC rest area did exist but was blocked off. I think the five ex ANZ went on to fly for Transaero

They were certainly a lot smarter and had a proper galley on the upper deck. We were gutted the crew rest area was blocked off - nearly hacked the door open with the crash axe a few times in the middle of the night lol!

On more than one occasion the door was found open!!!! Luckily not by using the crash axe!!!!! The cabin was good & to be honest ANZ looked after them well. Many a flying hour still left in them.
