Hi Everyone!
Can anyone shed any light on the following especially if this situation has happened to them...
I'm traveling to DXB UC in May and i happen to be traveling with another PAX who will be in Y. What do you think the chances they could join me at the bar for a drink? Is this a decision made on a flight by flight basis by the FSM or is it a flat NO NO.
Just didnt want to look stupid asking if there is no chance.
Cheers!

It depends in the route and the time of the flight. LHR-DXB is a night flight and therefore it is more likely to be a no as others will be trying to sleep. Always worth asking though.

It does tend to be very much at the discretion of the FSM, and as gingerflyer says, other factors such as the load in J may have a bearing on the outcome, though it doesn't hurt to ask as long as you are accepting that the response may be a no. Technically the J cabin is for J only so it would be a favour on part of the FSM, though it does happen from time to time.
Thanks,
Sarah

You could ask but be prepared for a 'no'.
Imagine if you were a UC pax wanting to use the bar and it was busy with non-UC 'guests'. I can imagine that you wouldn't be too happy about a facility you have paid for not being available.

I have found FSMs to be amenable to this before but it is highly qualified - time of flight, busyness being key factors as people have said. If you can't see the FSM I would have quietly request a cabin crew member to ask them to pop by then ask subtly and quietly, expect a negative but hope for a positive. If you are able, then as a guide a two drink max would not look like anyone was pushing it, oh and don't say loudly 'how is it economy' [:w]

I have had a FSM say yes to a friend joining me for a drink in UC on a MCO flight in the past. I asked the FSM when she came round and said hello to each pax and made it clear that the friend would sit on the ottomann (to leave the 2 seater bar free for any other UC pax) and stay for one drink.
When the pre-lunch drinks were being served in UC, one of the PE crew in the bubble asked my friend to go to the galley, then told him a drink was waiting for him near 8A. He visited the UC cabin and stayed for one drink.
I made a point of thanking the FSM later in the flight too. Good luck!

A word of warning...I have been told yes by a FSM only to have the friend loudly and embarrassingly thrown out by a CC before she had even taken a sip of a drink! An experience I don't want to have again!

An FSM on SFO-LHR allowed my Mother in law to sit on my wife's Ottoman for a chat, while my FiL joined me at the bar for a drink - actually he ahd about three! I made a point of saying a refusal would not offend me, and then was profuse in my thanks. As usual it's up to the FSM, and you shouldn't abuse it.
