1/ Looking to secure exit row seats on flight to SFO, what time do check-in desks open and is there a specific desk/queue nominated for each destination or do all flights use the same desks at the same time?

2/ Secondly, if you check-in online can you still request a change of seats to exit row?

3/ Haven't pre-selected or been allocated seat numbers at time of booking and 'seat-map' closed. During online check-in do you see your allocated seats before you have to commit to OLCI?

thanks in advance

Colin, welcome

Technically all LHR flights open when check in opens at 0630 (I stand to be corrected on this one), so you can check in at the airport from that time.

If have have checked-in online you can swap seats at physical check-in, if available. Also, during online check-in you will see your allocated seats and get the opportunity to change them, again if any available.

If the seat map is closed now then your flight is already at least 60% full so I'd do online check-in on the nose 24hrs in advance if I were you.

If you are travelling in economy and you want a bulk head/exit row seat, then there may be a charge for this which you will have to pay at check in (used to be about 50-75).

Check in opens at 6am, although it is usually about 6:10 before everything seems to be fully up and working.

I have never done OLCI without having seats pre-selected first, however I imagine the process is exactly the same. The choice of seats is the very last thing you do, once OLCI is actually completed, in your case I imagine the system will initially allocate you seat numbers and then you have the option to change to different ones if available.

As mentioned above, doing this will not affect your chance or changing seats at the airport, just go to the bag drop as normal and see what the options are. Flights to SFO do carry a charge of 75 per person for exit row seats as gingerflyer says.

There is a charge for exit row seats, but not for bulk head seats. However bulk head seats are held back for passengers travelling with young children and others who specifically need these seats.

The exit rows used to be avaialble on a BOGOF basis, as the 'window' has limited room due to the shape of the door. I assume this is still the case but no one has mentioned it for a while.

Don't forget connecting flights taking seat allocations too before check-in opens locally.
