Ryder Cup Team on Virgin!!!

Just saw news clip this morning with Bernhard Langer (the captain of the European Ryder Cup Team) doing an interview. I noticed a spiral staircase in the background and thought that it looked familiar - and yes it was the staircase in the Heathrow clubhouse!! Then the news article showed the team boarding a Virgin plane and also had Virgin logos in the background of the interview.

I assume Virgin are sponsoring the team? Wonder if anyone here was on the same flight today. Assuming they were in UC, I hope the wonderful flight attandents didn't give them too much champagne:):)

By the way the Ryder Cup is a golf team event (I realise not everyone will know) between Europe and the US:):)

cheers

I doubt anyone on here would have been on that flight...it was a specially chartered Suite fitted A340-600. It scheduled departure was 13:00 bound for Detriot.
The european team were on board, along with event officials and special guests.
Here is a link for further details:

Hope this helps

Thanks for the interesting link. I thought it would be a private booking and didn't think about where they were flying to - Detroit not being a usual VS destination!

That special ryder cup pie sounds pretty amazing, especially accompanied with a slice of Black Forest Gateau. Hey, maybe VS should keep these items on the menu for a while if Europe wins the cup:)

cheers

Ah - so that was the reason that VS900 was delayed until 14:15. The announcement was that another flight used VS900's slot and the next available slot was 14:15 - I guess the Ryder cup flight was the one that delayed us...

Regards,
Barry (in Tokyo)

As i mentioned in a previous 2 threads- the a/c was named by readers of the daily telegraph. the competition was launched about 5 weeks ago and the winner not only saw there chossen name on the side of the a/c but also traveled in Y class on the service and got to watch the tournament.

Hi Willd

Do you want to post the link to the previous thread here - I had a quick look but couldn't find anything?

Could be. Not too sure, you know, because everything VS seemed to be late that day. My JFK flight was, and I understand that the 15.00 BOS flight (VS11) didn't go until almost 20.00.

Come to think of it...

If the golf special took VS900's slot, VS900 took VS3's slot, VS3 took VS11s slot, that meant VS11 fell off the end of a cliff until it could get a gap later.

Now. Do I have a conspiracy theory brewing here? ;)

Cheers!
Mike
