Not sure if this is the forum to discuss VX - but today I arrived at LAX having already checked in my First Class ticket online the night before to be told my seat had been changed and I would be downgraded to the main cabin. I would get the difference between the fares refunded and a $400 VX credit for future travel.

I was furious. For one it wasn't explained why I had been bumped, and second the compensation was IMHO totally inadequate. I was on a business trip and planned to work through the journey. I ended up in a middle seat in Economy with no room to do anything, not to mention I was seething from the experience.

I called 'Customer Care' and was told they were not able to explain why I had been moved, and that was the best they could offer by way of compensation.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Oh that sucks, but as you've found out, when it comes to FAM's there is nothing the airline can do except try and keep the pax happy, which I don't have to point out to you, really isn't an easy thing.

I can see that a lot of what is said about seating position make sense. I've always looked out for FAMs on UA, but never spotted them, however, I never really looked at 2c or 2d !

It does suck to get downgraded, there is n't much an airline can do if the cabin you are supposed to be travelling in is full. On most other airlines I know of, they usually give you a bulkhead or exit row seat as well as the financial compensation.
