Booking by credit/debit card questions

Hi,

My father gave me permission to book my flight with his credit card (I have only debit cards), but a friend of mine told me that some airlines require the credit card owner to be with me at check-in. Do you know if Virgin will require my father to be at check-in? From the phone reservation office only asked if our family names are the same (they are).

And a second question, do you know why Virgin doesn`t support Visa Electron debit cards for online booking?

Your father will not need to be with you at check in. I have made many reservations for friends and family and paid on my card (to earn miles of course!) and have not been at the airport with them.

Can I book a ticket online for someone else if I am not travelling?
It is possible to buy a ticket online when the credit card holder will not be travelling to most of our destinations from the UK and US, provided there is a minimum of 7 days before departure. Paper tickets must then be mailed to the billing address of the credit card holder to ensure security. Currently the credit card holder has to be one of the passengers travelling to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos, Montego Bay, Kingston and Dubai.

I would make the booking over the phone, this is the way I usually do it, and I have always received an eticket.

Some airlines, I know that ANA are one need the credit card used on the website or over the phone to be present at check-in.
This is part of their anti-fraud checks and it is up to each indivivual airline how much flexibility they want to give people who book with credit cards.
If you book through a travel agent then it is the travel agent who takes the risk with taking your money and, as the airline is guaranteed to get the money from the agent, they only need your ticket.

Just another of the many benefits of booking through an agent which so many people seem to overlook these days!

Have booked frequently with a debit card and credit card for others, have always received an eticket with no other issues.

Don't forget, a debit card incurs no /low fees but VS charge a whack for some credit cards.
