A nervous wave from the Gatwick Clubhouse.... Necker Bound

A small recap on how we ended up here. After years of long haul travel on VS and a very generous JPY American express points program we found ourselves with a few million miles to spend. The plan was to use these in future years for our frequent trips to Tokyo (where we lived for 8 years) to visit friends and re-live some fantastic memories.
Then, out the blue, virgin announced they were cancelling the NRT route. Disaster.
Fearing pending downgrades of mileage programs (which proved correct on BAEC) we decided we needed to burn some miles quickly. So last November we managed to spend 1.2 million miles on a “celebration week” on Necker Island, and bagged 2 G’s to Antigua. Feeling pretty smug we then settled down to the British winter, knowing full well we have something special to look forward to.
Then, in January, a documentary entitled “Billionaire’s Paradise: Inside Necker Island” was shown on BBC2.
I could actually see the colour drain from my wife’s face.
We certainly are not DYKWIA types, thinking of ourselves more like the reserved Japanese that we came to embrace so much. A request to make Pina coladas whilst shirtless, eating sushi off a naked body (we never saw that once in all our time in Japan), fills us with trepidation.
However, we are now sitting in the LGW clubhouse (first time since 2003 and such a different vibe to the LHR one. I like it.) with a glass of bubbles each, breakfast ordered and looking forward to everything (well almost everything) that lies ahead.

hope you have a great time!

with cold bubbly and only tasteful companions, if anyone causes trouble get the staff to tie them to a palm tree for the ants to nibble

Well done on amassing so many miles!
I hope you have a great flight and a fabulous holiday.
I too watched the documentary and was also put off the idea of going there, perhaps they choose the more outlandish guests to film and when you arrive, hopefully you will find more like minded guests.
Please post a TR I'm sure everyone will love to hear of your experience.
Have a great time!

Have a wonderful time. Like you it made my hair stand on end, but, it is the people that make the holiday and I'm sure you will make it the celebration it deserves.

Sit back, have fun and relax.

And, please, please, please post a trip report documenting the entire time there!

Want to hear about this and am hoping it will be positive.... as I am also going to Necker under similar circumstances next year! Got my slot booked in September 2016, so hopefully should be a fun time there.

My correspondence with the team that runs the Island leads me to believe that the TV documentary was focussed on a few elements that stood out a bit too loudly - most of the people who go just seem to relax on the beach, which is what I intend to do with a few scotches or a Vesper martini in hand. You can be as quiet or loud as you want apparently.

All the staff we spoke to about the TV program seemed a little underwhelmed with the final edit. Its actually not in your face at all. There are always activities planned but participation is optional. Apart from one evening, all meals are communal, and i don't know how flexible they are for individual dinning so that could be a consideration for some
