Connecting in Atlanta Airport

Just sitting in the Delta lounge (courtesy of Amex) and thought I'd do a very quick post about connecting at Atlanta

I have been trying out some new routes to Orlando in the past few years if unable to get a decent price direct and have to say that flying into Atlanta and then down to Orlando via Delta has got to be one of the easiest routes

At the moment there seems to be plenty of reward availability into ATL and flying 1st / Business which gives you 3 tiers points is around $200

The connection process is very, very easy.

I checked in for both flights in Heathrow, and received boarding cards for both

Immigration was very quick and you use the machines if you have an esta.

Turn left when exiting the hall, hand you bag over, go through security then downstairs to the "plane train" and onwards 5 stops to T

Turn left when off the train, up the escalator and it's probably 100 metres to your gate.

Immigration was empty and the whole process probably took less than 20 mins

When you say you "checked in for both" is the DL flight a separate ticket entirely? How did that process work at Heathrow with baggage?

(I have this next month through LHR- ATL to Nashville on seperate tickets and i dont want to have to go landside and check-in luggage all over again!)

Just handed over both tickets at the desk and asked if she could check the bags straight through to Orlando. You do need to collect as per above but you get both boarding passes. Very very easy ( and yes it was separate purchased tickets )

Now I'm really confused. I asked recently why people flew to Orlando via Atlanta and most replies were that it is down to price. So I did a few checks and yes Virgin to MCO via ATL was cheaper than direct. However, if I only wanted the Atlanta leg it was more expensive by over £300 for an Upper ticket.
So what have you gained by buying separate tickets?

I'm really pleased all went well and its just so seamless isn't it. Wishing you a wonderful stay in the Sunshine state.

I'm back through ATL in two weeks time so i'm in the countdown phase (holiday rather than work which is always good...)

I'm such a fan of the VS/DL tie-up and flying from MAN to ATL has opened up new opportunities which Is great.

Thank you for confirming. Both VS and DL couldn't tell me for sure and i was getting conflicting information, including having to exit and check in baggage as if i was just entering at ATL.

Morning Dick D

My LHR to ATL were full G's and were able to be changed 2 weeks before by 4 days for only £25 - there was that much choice available
