Oh dear, so it is! I agree - likely to be a tech issue to have been diverted to LGW base. Hope all is well!

According to Flight Aware (though it may be an aberration on the tracklog) it looked to be returning to Manchester briefly.

Scrap that - think it's preparing to join the landing queue at LGW. Can't have been a huge issue if on hold to land at LGW?

The flight status on the VS page also lists a MAN to MAN flight - perhaps they planned to but had a change of plans. Hope they can patch things up and get them on their way.

Not squawked 7770 so must be minor. There should be a spare plane at Gatwick at this time of year.

Now on final approach.

Edit: safely landed. Was followed down the runway by two emergency vehicles but she didn't wait and drove off without them!

Passengers are reporting on social media one of the engines had an issue on take off, rumours suggesting burning smell, bird strike or landed at Gatwick on 3 engines.

Passengers being transferred onto English Rose.

Will the Captain be asked to put his foot down to try to keep the delay under 4 hours (EU261)?

There'd be no compensation if it was a bird strike. That would be deemed an extraordinary circumstance under EU261/2004.
