Lounge at BGI

Next year will be my first time of flying UC out of BGI. I've only flown UC a couple of times in the last year, both were outbound from LGW to BGI, so I've experienced the LGW Clubhouse, but have no idea what to expect at the other end in Barbados.

Can anyone descirbe what the lounge is like and what is available in there? We will be leaving on a sunday if that makes any difference. I know saturdays can be particularly manic at the airport.

In the olden days we would always check in and then head over to Frankies bar for a last Banks or two, but that's sadly not an option any more since it burnt down (and the security queues seem to have got longer in the last few years!)

I've booked us seats 3A and 4A as 5A had already gone (A330). It was a toss up between 3/4A, 6/7A or seats on the K side. Since we've sat in 4/5A before and they were OK I went for 3/4A but am open to suggestions.

Been a couple of years since I've been but it's not great from my experience, often crowded with a very average selection of food/drinks.

I prefer to stay in the main departure lounge at BGI, I love it in there sitting by the gates, really spacious with great view of the planes outside, and that wonderful caribbean atmosphere in the late afternoon. But by all means give the lounge a try, perhaps go in grab some food, cool down then head out if it's packed....It is usually nice and air conditioned in there at least.

Don't expect a clubhouse but there's a lounge. Self service, soft and alcoholic drinks and nibbles but busy. I am sure I posted a photo once. Will try and dig it out.

I found one (not on here) but it doesn't show much, blank walls, filled seats……but I can't seem to have 'permissions' to make a new album (whatever that means).

Suffice it to say, you can cool down (if you find a seat), get wifi, a glass of wine/soft drink and some snacks. Don't expect any more. It's not huge, about 1000sq feet from memory.

I found this, but to be honest I don't recognise half of that…..perhaps I am getting old...

Managed to upload one I found, doesn't show much, my (then)13yr old son and some very blank looking walls….huge notice (don't recall that) but at least I had a glass of wine. :D

Nothing special, but comfortable enough with buffet-style offering.

the lounge is basic, snacks and drinks

only been in there a couple of times, it was pretty crowded, it'd be more pleasant it it were quieter, so worth checking if you're there on a sunday

otherwise, if you can get a decent seat downstairs at one of the snack bars that might be more pleasant to while away the time

on the 330, assuming your plan onboard is enjoy a few bubblies then zzzzzz the way home, there's not much in it a/k, just avoid the middle d/g seats

personally i'd go for k at the front as it's further away from any noise at the bar and the PE bassinets, with the way the bar is angled, k gets a bit more 'shielding' too; the UC toilet is on the a side at the front, whilst there are two toilets to the rear of the k side, UC/PE with a curtain between, so i find less passing traffic in k front seats, which means less disturbance from pax in the night bumping into my feet

on that route UC will probably be full, but if not i've noticed most people book a/d (perhaps quicker getting off by a few seconds, but in UC i really don't care!), so if there are any empty seats they tend to be g/k which again makes it a smidge more peaceful

maybe i overthink UC seat selection marginal gains :)

Thanks everyone. I'll not hold my breath in excitement! Will probably take a look though just so I have been there, done that!

Do they serve rum or Banks beer in there?

Hi LucyLu, had to smile at that one :-)
Is there an establishment anywhere in Barbados that doesn't serve rum?

As others have said, lounge is adequate, I have always enjoyed it as have always felt chilled after a break in BGI & also looking forward to flight home, also think it is great having such a short walk to the gate.

I NEVER look forward to the flight home, however long I go to Barbados for! I don't think I could live there but I very much enjoy my holidays there and never once have I felt ready to come home. Even the first tiem I went in 1989 when I work out there for a couple of months. May sound soppy, but I have had tears in my eyes on occasion when it is time to come home.

AS long as we can have a last rum and/or Banks in the lounge I will be happy
