Delayed Baggage

Anyone with any experience of how VS deals with delayed bags because to be honest I'm not impressed.
They are very good at saying what *should* happen but not what *will* happen.
In 3 phone calls no one told me about the on-line tracing service. I found it myself using Google. Not that it tells you very much ...
Tonty is not happy - at least he travels with me in my hand luggage!

on my (VS ticketed) flight LHR-ATL-MCO my case never made it onto the DL leg to MCO
at MCO the DL luggage desk couldn't give any information, but gave me a reference number and url for
https://www.wheresmysuitcase.com/ if you've got a reference number, i'd definitely login and make sure your details are correct/complete
once i got to the hotel i logged in and put in my details - which DL seemed not to have provided to them
case was delivered to the hotel about 0400, eight hours behind me

Happened to us a few years back when we went to Cuba. We were travelling with VH and the local rep was very good, took the problem on, said the case would be on the next scheduled flight (two days later) , would be at the hotel next on our itinerary and it was. Havana presented fewer opportunities than NYC for making good deficiencies in under and outerwear and toiletries ....

Well they arrived - sometime after 10.30 last night. Meant a ruined Saturday night as no clothes to go to the function I had been invited to. Contradictory messages on what VS would have paid for and I wasn't prepared to buy a new set on the basis of would I still buy if I wasn't going to get reimbursed and the answer to that was 'no'
Still not happy though and BA, AA and VS to blame and all 3 will get pointed emails when I return.
I hope the family in the same situation as me (also moved from the AA107 to the VS9) got their 17 bags!

Sorry to hear about the luggage delay. It is very annoying when that happens, waiting at the carousel, hoping against all hopes your case will pop out when most others have walked away with their cases.
Has happended to me once when flying to TXL (Berlin) via AMS and we were delayed leaving from MAN, missing the connecting flight but catching an alternative soon after arrival. Sadly our cases spent the night in Amsterdam as there was too little time for transfer.
The more connections the greater the risk of luggage mishaps I suppose. I assume this was an ex-EU journey with both BA/AA and VS involvement?
Hope the rst of the trip goes well.

I'm pre-empting tonty's reply and he will no doubt correct me if I got it wrong.
He was indeed doing an ex-EU journey from Copenhagen. His flight from LHR-JFK on AA was cancelled and he was transferred on to VS 9.
No doubt he will give the gory details in his TR

Sounds like tontys' experience highlights one of the two big risks of ex-EU or "hidden city" ticketing.
1. You check your bag in at the EU airport and it is through-checked to the final destination, on your originally ticketed airline. Your ex-London flight then gets cancelled, but your bag arrives as transfer baggage and is in the bowels of the terminal tagged for the original airline+flight. Not always easy to get a bag out of the system and reassigned to a new flight - but in the case of AA + VS (as it was here) they are both in T3, so should have been possible, time permitting.
2. On your return flight there is "travel disruption" and your ex-USA flight is cancelled. The airline only have to get you to your final ticketed destination - on a routing of their choice. You could quite easily end up in the hidden city with all your luggage & face a not cheap one-way flight back to where you wanted to hop-off & not take the final flight of your itinerary (assuming this was your intention!)
As a sideline, many years ago we did DEN-ORD-MAN on American & our flight from Denver to Chicago was delayed due to weather - making the connection look very dubious. On arrival in Chicago we literally ran to the gate for our Manchester flight and just made it - they all but closed the door behind us as we boarded. We did not expect to see our bags in Manchester (not a problem as we were heading home anyway). To our amazement, the bags did make the flight. OK, both flights were on AA & to/from the same terminal, but even so.

Indeed I am on an ex-Eu starting in Copenhagen (lovely light show then fire works to mark the new year in the Tivoli Gardens). thw probes was due to the AA flight being cancelled and being rebooked onto VS.
I was told by the AA service desk in T3 that they would divert the bags 'in the system' and that they would make the flight but they didn't. There was two hours between my arrival at T5 and the VS9 leaving and the MCT is less than that. I'm sure the FSM said that they were waiting for some bags so that gave me hope.
. When I got into the tracing system using the Vs reference it was the BA bag reference that was displayed.
The return won't be a problem as the leg to CPH is at the end of the month!!

glad you were reunited with your baggage, i still remember how i felt when mine went astray, of course it's very much a 'first world problem', but quite a dispiriting experience!

Might be worth checking to see if your credit card offers any protections for this. Mine gives me $100/day (for up to 5 days) to buy essentials if my bags are delayed by more than 6 hours, and even provides $3,000/passenger for lost or damaged luggage. Chase Sapphire Preferred for those that are interested (US-based card).
