Stupid question

Apologies in advance for the daft question

I've just booked LAS via DTW with VS and Delta. For the return flights how early would you arrive at LAS for the Delta flight? I've not done an indirect flight before so am unsure

Normal domestic check-in time. So if the say no later than an hour before then an hour before etc.

It depends on where you are staying in Las Vegas in relation to the airport, there is a Lot of road works all over the strip and near the airport so allow extra time to get to the airport. The work is expected to last until next August.Linda

And watch out for conventions! - for example., on Thu 21st there will be 100,000 broadcasters leaving town, mostly by air, as the NAB (National Association of Broadcaster) convention finishes that day.

The taxi drivers know what's going on, so it's worth dropping one a 5$ tip to get the lowdown on whether the airport's likely to be 'convention swamped' the day you're leaving

Thanks Peter. I'm there for a work conference so there will be a few thousand work colleagues! However, I've booked and paid for my own flights to not be on a rather nasty group booking in EC the outbound of which we were expected to attend the event opening and dinner having been up for over 24 hours and flown coach........ I have booked transfers with Blacklane which I can change if needed

I've now got a couple of free days so any tips of what to do and what not to do would be appreciated as never been to Vegas before. I was thinking of the helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon

I would do a flight over the Grand Canyon but in a plane rather than a helicopter!!! Scenic Airways fly twin otters which take about 13 people and have massive windows for great views. After the flight, which was about 3/4 hr if I remember rightly, we went by road to the Hoover Dam and had a couple of hours there before being driven back to Las Vegas. It was a great half day out but a very early start. We booked it all before we left the UK.

Sadly, I've spent over six months of my lfe in Vegas at conventions!
I prefer the canyon by helicopter rather than plane, so each to their own
There's some great guided hiking just outside Vegas, and the good thing is that 99.999% of visitors dont go outside the city limit....

You may wish to look into the difference between the Canyon West trips (which many will argue is not the real Grand Canyon, yet where most Vegas visitors end up going) and the Grand Canyon South Rim which is 200 miles further away and is far more spectacular (and IMO worth the effort to get to if you have the time).

There are endless threads on other sites debating this should you be so inclined

And if you are looking for something a little different then have a try of Capo's Speakeasy, it is not your average eating place and is off strip.

I think you'll find lots of people with different opinions about what to do in and around Vegas. If you're interested in a memorable helicopter experience in the Canyon, Adventure Helicopters fly 'doors off' which is quite a buzz.
Since the topic has moved onto where to eat, I like Twist (in the Mandarin Oriental) or Guy Savoy (in Caesar's)- neither are cheap, but both are amazing.
