Hello all,
It's me again with yet another question (thanks for all your help recently and previously!). Our 2x return G's to Miami are fast approaching and I'm in planning mode - I've just realised that booking a chauffeur one way is only 17,500 points. I'm saving my miles for next year's trip, but my husband has about 26,000 miles languishing in his account. Would I be able to use these to book a chauffeur (and experience the UC wing!) even though I booked the flights from my account? Or would I need to pay to transfer them to my account with the transfer charges?
I'm thinking that a chauffeur and the DTCI will be great as my husband only had his plaster off a couple of days ago and may well still be on crutches!

Don't waste precious miles on a limo transfer, unless you've absolutely no other use for them.

Assuming you value miles at 1p each, that means VS are charging £175 for a glorified taxi.

Save your miles for reward flights or upgrades and book a local cab or an Uber to get you to the airport. Any car can use DTCI.

But to answer your question, if you DO want to book the VS limo, it won't be a problem using miles from your husband's account.

Hmm... good question! I am sure someone more learned than me will come along soon with a definitive answer.

However, is VS logic for miles use works with chauffeur cars, you have to have enough miles in one account for a complete sector - which you do in your husbands' FC account for the chauffeur car. Your husband is ticketed on a G fare to Miami, so is eligible to spend extra miles for the chauffeur car, so it should be OK.

Give Flying Club a call - the people in Swansea are generally really helpful (more so than Upper Class support with whom I had a 20min+ discussion about what a radius is for a CDC - they backed down eventually, only because the VS website was wrong - it has since been changed).

As above, yes, the miles in your hubby's account will be sufficient for you to book, but is it a waste?

A criminal waste in my view -

Is it a waste?

For some people it is but for others it isn't.

It's like some people will only use their miles for a direct UC reward because they feel it is better value than using miles to upgrade but others believe it's better to use them to upgrade from a cash fare.

It also depends where you live (you don't say) and what the cost of a mini cab / taxi would be to the airport.

Remember you can still use the UC DTCI using a private car if it's the UC Wing you really want to use.

I did use my miles earlier this year for the CDC. I considered it pretty good value compared to the £100 a car from Brighton to LHR costs.

BTW if hubby is still on crutches consider asking VS to organise a wheel chair as it's quite a walk from the wing to the CH and from the CH to some of the gates. They can also arrange it for your arrival at MIA.

We live in South Wales, but are staying in the Hilton at London Paddington the night before. I suppose we could get a cab, and I've priced a private chauffeur and its around £120. I think I was a bit spoiled having Emirates Chauffeurs on a business trip earlier this year. I kind of see using miles as getting it for free as they've not cost me anything to accumulate. Almost all my miles come from my Black Amex, and not from flights, and I have the 200,000 for a pair of G's next year and so not sure what else we would use hubbys miles for,... he is unlikely to accumulate any more so won't get enough for a whole sector, and it seems more of a waste to pay to transfer them to my account. This is a very special trip to us (10 year wedding anniversary - delayed by 2 years!), we've booked first class trains to and from Paddington, some cracking hotels and villa etc while we are away so tempted to go all out!!

PS = yes, i'll definitely be booking special assistance as he is still hobbling about, but at least the plaster is off! :-)
