Funny Au recognition story
Posted: 19 Apr 2018, 10:12Recently flew back from JFK. I'm Au and have been for 3-4 years now. My partner was Au a few years ago but dropped to Ag and just last month made it back up to Au.
We were flying PE and were sat in each other's seats; not the seats we were allocated on our boarding passes as I decided (i.e. was told) to take the aisle seat. For the first time in the history of my MANY flights with VS (most of which have been UC, this was the first PE flight!) , there was actually some Au recognition .... but not quite as I expected ....
Shortly after boarding, a member of cabin crew approached and look puzzled that her manifest didn't match the names on the seats. I explained we had swapped seats. The cabin crew then proceeded to gush all over my partner with "thank you so much for being a loyal customer, we really value our gold members and I wanted to personally welcome you on board and say that if you need anything at all just shout for me and I'll be in here a second ... etc.. etc.. let me get some champagne .... etc ... ".
All this time I was just sat there awkwardly, with my partner loving the attention. I should have said "what about me, I'm gold too!" but we both had a good long laugh when the cabin crew walked off, especially since I'm so obsessive about retaining my Au status and my partner couldn't care less and shows no interest whatsoever!
Not sure what happened but guess she either overlooked me or I wasn't highlighted on the manifest. My FC number was duly added to my ticket. I would have been slightly taken aback if it was a stranger I was next to! Certainly a memorable start to our flight home!
