I am pretty much able to upgrade to G an outbound flight to the US quite easily. On the way back it seems to be nigh on impossible.

Anyone got any idea why and if there is a sneaky way to find availability?

This is using VS miles on VS flights.

That’s always been the case.

It’s easier to sell UC seats on night flights where the flat beds come into their own, so rewards tend to be scarcer.

Keep checking though, patience and persistence usually pay off. And as a last resort you can usually upgrade with miles at the airport if there are unsold seats.

I've always had great success at the airport but last year when I did this same route home SJC-SEA-LHR I failed. Mainly as I was airside already there was no one Virgin willing to talk to at all!!!!
