Smart Kindle found on G-VGAL on VS43/44 - 28/04/18

Just on the off-chance....we found a very smart Kindle on the VS44 from Las Vegas last night. It had obviously been left behind on the incoming VS43. We found it in the seat pocket.
If anyone knows the person who lost it, we gave it to the cabin crew.
I have put out a tweet about it and have suggested that I could provide the seat number so that the owner can be contacted.
The device will now have been sent to lost property I have been told.
Hope the owner is reunited with their no doubt valued possession.

Very nice of you to do that.
Hope it is reunited soon!

Was hoping that someone on here who worked for Virgin could perhaps email the owner if I provided the seat number.
I know that it's not normal to do that and I'm not criticising at all if it's not possible. It's just me trying to do anything I can to brighten the day of someone I don't even know.....!!
Post now also on Virgin Atlantic's Facebook page.

.
Customer services could possibly do that but not just any random member of staff.
Best to do this the proper way - especially with the new, stricter data protection rules coming in soon.

Thanks tontybear. I have sent a message through to Customer Services.
Think that's as far as I can take it!

Is it just me or is it somewhat worrying, from a security point of view, that an electronic device can be left behind and go undetected until the next flight? Aren’t the CC supposed to do thorough security checks of the cabin before passengers are let on?
This was obviously harmless but the next time it might not be.

Agree, but wouldn't it be the cleaning staff that are tasked with this? I doubt the cabin crew check each seat; they sometimes only board a few minutes before the pax and then seem to be off the aircraft ASAP after it lands!

Yes, the cleaners should have found it and handed it in.
But it’s the CC’s responsibility to check the cabin and passengers shouldn’t be allowed on until they’re satisfied it’s secure.

Last few flights I have been on there has been rubbish in the seat pockets and the side luggage bin in the bubble. I think VS cleaning standards in Y are slipping slightly

2015 LA police left a stick of dynamite on a plane after a search training exercise.
I'm pretty sure it happened over here too, but no harm done eh?

It did indeed happen over here - quite a few years ago on a BA plane at LHR. It was dynamite (or similar) left in a seat-back pocket after a training exercise.
As to the crew disembarking the aircraft very soon after the pax on landing - this is not an issue IMO, as long as a quick sweep has been made for any obvious lost property, i.e. stuff on a seat. Boarding, however, should not commence until the crew are happy the aircraft is secure, which should include a fairly thorough search of the aircraft.

Oh, for a second you gave me hope. My other half left his Kindle Paperwhite on VS137 on 27 April. Alas, not the same aircraft. We have spoken to VS a few times, spoke to ground staff at JFK on our way back on VS26 on Monday 30 April, as well as submit a report to JFK Lost & Found, to no avail.

Hi stars,
Perhaps try lost property in the UK too.
I found this on the flight home to LGW so this Kindle will be at lost property in the UK.

That is a good point. We will try that, too. Thank you!
