Working from LHR Clubhouse - will I get away with it ?

Hi,

Due to fly out on VS9 (1545 hrs.) on 24/5. My plan was to rock up to the clubhouse around 9am - and then work out of their (genuinely work and not quaff too many RedHeads ....)

I believe their is an unspoken limit / don't want to take the proverbial by rocking up several hours before my flight (also what is the earliest I can check my luggage ?)

So for example lets say I can check-in-in @ 0800 hrs, and say into the clubhouse for 0830 hrs. (assuming I'll be leaving to go to the gate @ 1530 hrs (7 hrs.)

Does the collective think I'll be ok, or 2 hopes (one of whom is called Bob) ..... ?

Would rather maximize my time in the clubhouse - than rock up at lunch time, and only get 2 and a bit hrs to enjoy ahead of my flight.

Appreciate any feedback/experiences etc.

Regards,

seyre

The earliest you can check your luggage is when the desks open in the morning; there’s none of this “3 hours before your flight”malarkey beloved of BA.

You won’t have any problem being there for as long as you want during the day. A number of V-Flyers have had fairly epic stints, I think.

Many people spend far longer than 7 hours in there! And not just V-Flyers!

It’s not uncommon for people to arrive on a red-eye from the USA and spend all day there before an evening flight to Asia, Africa or Dubai.

I believe there’s only a time limit for PE passengers who’ve paid for access. There’s no restriction for UC or Au pax (and to be fair to BA, they don’t impose one either - it tends to be the shared Priority Pass lounges that have time limits and quotas).

PJH - thank you.

Have updated my car park booking for the earlier arrival time - and will now work out of the CH for the day. Just got to remember not to eat my bodyweight in Smoked Salmon and sourdough bread .... :-P

Only 21 days to departure !! Can't wait.

I rocked up at the Clubhouse at 8:30am for my 5pm Boston flight and worked on my laptop for most of the day... when haircuts and showers didn't distract me!! It's no problem at all :-)

Damn you - was hoping to set a record for longest stay in the CH ..... :D I'd have to get their for 0730 to match your stay ..... (wonders what time I have to leave home to get round M25 to be there for opening time) ;-)

Thankfully only email and maybe a couple of calls needed throughout the day to look like I'm working. Worse case email can be done from the phone rather than Laptop (not had a haircut in the Salon yet so may take the opportunity to tick off my checklist)

No they aren't - last time I got charged £18 (with 10% gold discount). I believe a single-grade clipper cut is £10.

At the complete other end of the scale, I braved my local Wetherspoons today at lunchtime (not through choice!) and there were at least 3 people in there clearly working on laptops (with paperwork out on table too). Can understand dealing with emails / paperwork, but how do you deal with phone calls with the background noise & chinking of glasses - so it's blatantly obvious you're in a pub?

To the OP - enjoy your time in the Clubhouse, it's a great place to be. As you say, go easy on the Redheads until all the emails have been dealt with and the "Out of Office" message is on.

To be fair to BA the 3 hour limit is only for WT and WT+

CW anf F plus gold and silver can bag drop from 5am.

There is a 'trial' (as in being going on for almost a year if not longer) for anyone else to bag drop from 5am but you need to use the bag drop rather than check-in desks.

Might see you in there! I’ll be quaffing the redheads and brambles but departing early, we are on the 11:35 flight to Miami

I suspected as much, but why let the truth get in the way of a dig at BA? :).

To be fair I used the bag drop trial last year and it worked well. The previous time I had to mooch around landside for an hour as the M25 had not behaved as badly as usual.

Hi - pop over an say hello - I’ll invariably be in cargo shorts and a check shirt (and rather large scar on my left calf .... ).

Bit of a scruff I suppose when flying - always interesting flying back out of JFK - always asked if I’m in the right queue when using sky priority - quite enjoy the reverse snobbery when I tell them “of course I am in the right queue”

Maybe I should start wearing a straw Panama hat at a rakish angle .... :-D

A few years ago, we checked in at midday (thrown out of hotel) for a 9pm flight to HKG and will be doing exactly the same next March.

We popped out for a spot of shopping and a walk around T3, but soon scuttled back after spying the mayhem. The time passed surprisingly quickly.

Time, always, seems to pass quickly in a Clubhouse.

We have abandoned the idea of going back into the Terminal per se; the 'Duty Free' prices don't serve as an inducement, and it can be depressingly crowded.

The relative calm, pretty decent food, drinks, showers, shoe shine, power points etc. in the Clubhouse beats T3 general departures hands-down.

I think we have managed at least 7 or 8 hours pre-flight (SFO/LOS/HKG/PVG/NRT), without breaking sweat.
