Quick lounge review - PVG

Good morning from the China Eastern Lounge at PVG!

Currently awaiting boarding of VS251 on G-VOWS to take me home and thought I would follow on with my tradition of reviewing the third party lounges.

(Upper Class upgrades were available via the app & check in for £769 as well as miles (despite expert flyer showing G0), but I decided to decline given it is a day flight.)

This lounge is a little hard to find. It's upstairs near gate 77. (It's also lounge number 77). The escalator to it is kind of hidden though, and I found it easier to find by taking a right after security and going through duty free, then it is on your left. It's sandwiched between duty free and the gates. If you get to gate 79, you've gone too far.

Theres a dedicated area for VS251. Very large, probably half of the entire lounge I think. Lots of different places to sit. Bar style seating, loungers etc. Quite well equipped really. As it's open air on the mezzanine level, it's not as quiet as say HKG, but still perfectly removed from the bustle of the departures floor below.

It's branded fairly well, it has red Virgin Atlantic cushion as well as a model of G-VEIL (An A340-600), so I can only imagine the cushion are from the days of the 346 doing this route. Still a nice touch though.

It has a dedicated bar with drinks laid out. An omelette bar with some live cooking options. The chef is very friendly and doubles as a waiter too by the looks of it.

Food options are plentiful, with breakfast options available in both Chinese & English. Looks like there is plenty to go around, but the lounge is quiet today, with a light load in Upper and Premium and very few Golds I think. I count no more than 6 right now, with less than 45 minutes to boarding.

Internet is limited. Better than HKG, but worse than DXB. Perfectly OK for basic browsing, and hopefully this review!

There is a dedicated member of VS staff on patrol in here as well for any queries.

The lounge also has a fairly good view over the taxiways in front of the terminal, if you like plane spotting.

I think that's it for this one really.

CommanderB, out.

Great detailed review there Commander, as we have come to expect! My last visit was back in January and I must have completely missed the dedicated VS area entirely (or it was not open during my brief stay), so your mentioning it comes as a great surprise haha. A good one though!

Hope the 251 is treating you well!

That looks pretty decent for a third party lounge.

Miami take note ...

Not tried it yet, but VS use the DL Sky Club lounge now at MIA after they moved into concourse H a few months ago, which I believe is a lot better than the previous sorry excuse for a lounge.

In which case for me it's LAS take note... the lounge there is over crowded and dark... a really miserable place.

CommanderB, thanks so much for the great review. I hope we get to visit Shanghai again soon :)
