Hi all,

Not seen it mentioned here but currently on the VS103 and just paid £20.99 for the max WiFi. I’m sure that used to be £14.99.

I have it on my phone... I begrudge another £21 to get my laptop online so is there any cleverness I can perform to utilise the one connection? iPhone / MacBook combo.

Very busy at LHR today. Took 20 minutes for a tea to arrive in the CH. :-O

Thanks!

Mike

Yup, just checked my amex statement for Jan and was charged £14.99 and £20.99 in March :-O

When I use my iphone / ipad you can use both with the same payment, just not at the same time. Just log into the one you want to use and it should switch off the other .

When traveling with others and all wanting access to WiFi at the same time, a very nice feature of some phones is WiFi Sharing. Does go against rules generally though!

Well I never knew that... and it does indeed work. Thanks David.

From what I vaguely remember reading in the in-flight magazine about wifi, Virgin have two providers. One for the 787 / Airbus fleet & one for the 747 fleet. The provider on the 747's is GoGo Internet and their prices were cheaper than the other fleet provider.

I know I have paid £14.99 several times on the 747 fleet for unlimited download wifi for the entire flight. Again, I vaguely recall that the small print for the other provider said there was a download cap, even on the "entire flight" option. (I may be wrong, but normally only use it on outbound flights when alcohol consumption has been limited as driving on arrival in the USA).

Certainly on the GoGo connection, I have had no problems streaming HD videos from YouTube, using BBC iPlayer (via a VPN) etc. It was a solid connection and worked out at about £2/hour. There were a few points in the flight when the connection completely dropped for a few minutes as the antenna was locating & connecting to a new satellite.

The 789’s use the slower none-2Ku WiFi system with the T-Mobile payment portal whereas all the other A/C use the GoGo 2Ku system which is faster but more expensive.

The 789 system also has a limited usage allowance as well whereas the GoGo doesn’t come with any usage allowance.

If the TMobile system has gone up by £6, I hope the 150mb restriction has gone?

Isn't there some way of getting free access with the Boingo which comes free with the Virgin Money credit card.

I have signed up for a Boingo account, just not been on a plane to try it out!

Only on the 787 / T Mobile system I believe.

I assume that VS are locked into a contract with T Mobile for a certain amount of time hence why they haven't standardised.

Will try the Boingo route when i fly to LAX next week but it works well on recent flights to Asia with EVA Air and was free via their TMobile based service, just click on roaming partners tab and enter your details.
