Comfort plus upgrade to reward flight

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase an economy reward flight on Delta using VS miles and subsequently upgrade it (with cash or miles) to a comfort plus seat?
I read that the most basic economy fares are not upgradable but cannot find any information on the fare bucket that the virgin miles reward flights are booked into.
