Starting Oct 22nd 2023, VS will fly a 787-9 three times a week to the Maldives. You can buy tickets from Nov 30th 2022.

Turks & Caicos will be twice a week onboard a 787-9. This route starts Nov 15th 2023 with tickets on sale from Jan 11th 2023.

This makes good sense! So much more sense than returning to DXB.

Competing against the battered old BA 777 on this route is a good play.

Can't wait to try this out.

Nice....maybe it's time to dust off my SCUBA gear and head back to The Maldives again  Those little air-taxis that fly you to your resort islands from MLE are an experience on their own!

Last time I was there (2004), you couldn't even fly direct. I flew QR via DOH who were rubbish even flying J.

Will the Turks & Caicos flight be a simple out and back to/from London or will there be a tag-on with another Caribbean island in the same way that St Vincent is a tag-on with a BGI flight?

Agreed. Leave EK and BA to it with DXB.

It will be another double-drop route onto the MBJ flight.

No. But my best guess for the Maldives would be the same as LA and T&C to be the same as current Caribbean routes.

Does anyone have any info on when the 787 refit may happen? I know they originally stated that would start in 2023 pre-pandemic, but wonder if that has changed? Looks like BA send club suite to Maldives most flights now, a step ahead of upper on the 787...

All I can find is blog posts from 2019 saying they were going to start refits in 2023.

Pre Server crash it was a thread I was following to see if anyone else had an idea on the refits!

The plan always was to refit the B789's. It's just a case of when rather than if. VS's soft J product has always been light years ahead of BA IMHO.

Also something else to bear in mind is by 2023 BA will be using their new proposed AVIOS earning system based on what you spend on the fare rather then the current system based on distance flown & cabin flown in.

I truly hope VS never go down this insane route for earning Virgin Points on flights :-O
