Tried some of the new mention rotation on VS23 yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be..

Ham Starter

Chicken main (sort of like a mini roast)

Millionaires dessert

Extra bites - lamb flatbread

On the whole it was fairly decent. The chicken satay boa bun looked good as well so I'll have that next time. I didn't want to exhaust the entire menu when I have to live with it for another 6 months. :-D

I started with the carrot thing, which was an odd texture but OK:

Followed by the soup and toastie which was good; just watch the toastie though as the chilli jam does has a kick to it:

Followed by the chocolate dessert which was good.

Later, I had the beyond burger which was really tasty:

All in all not as bad as I was expecting either. Nice to have the burger back even if it’s not beef

Breakfast selection cards are back (I don’t remember seeing those for a while?)

Oh that’s great! Crew mentioned they were coming back. They’ve been gone since covid.

It looks like Gerald Ratner has got a job in Virgin's catering department - i.e. "total crap". They need to look at their core market - trans-atlantic - and our American friends like beef & potatoes. But a man who lives in a British Virgin Islands tax exile [& has zero to do with the airline, unless a TV camera is around] has decreed beef a no-go.

I re-iterate my previous comment - serve us good normal food. Don't try to emulate a 5* restaurant in the sky, as it will fail.

My wife cannot eat cheese, and she doesn't eat calamari so those main choices are completely unsuitable for her...

I hope the PE choices are available for her!

Not a very varied choice really, and nothing in the way 9f "classic" British food, so not very good for a UK airline.

Think Virgin are trying to be far too clever with their meals. Go back to basics and offer food that people will eat.

Do they not consider that 2 chicken and broccoli dishes are just  ? Especially broccoli which I rarely eat anyway.

I take it that the menus are the same for both east coast and west coast USA?

The west coast menu is LAX/SFO/SEA/LAS/AUS and it’s not the same as the east coast menu. I’ll post it here when I can.

West Coast menu is still a Gerald Ratner special. I am sorry Virgin (& Beardie) but I want beef.

If you want beef, fly a different airline.

If you want decent food I would try another airline at the moment

The menus actually looks amazing to us - very much our taste

We have quite a few flight coming up in next few months so will get the chance to sample it all but there isnt one dish that doesn’t appeal to wither myself or my partner (well maybe not the trout for me ……but may be tempted to try a bit partner chooses it )

Good job we all like different things isnt it ? Plain food is not for us when something spicy and or exciting is on offer ! The paella really sounds amazing is hardly fancy food

At least I can drown my sorrows with BrewDog Hazy Jane and Woodford Reserve if I don't find the food to my taste. ;-)

Our next flight is to Austin next April, so I guess by then we may be criticising whatever they've come up with next. :-D

Thanks for posting it. It looks nicer than the others, with a bit of a Texan twist. I’ve got no idea what cauliflower confetti is though. Do they mash up a cauliflower and throw it over you? ;-)
