I miss that route.
They brought back some other older routes I see, so... wondered if there was any chance of this being revived?!

Never say never, but I don’t believe there are any plans at the moment.
As an aside, I read this yesterday. Not entirely convinced the headline is accurate as they’re reaching there due to higher frequencies. We’ll see!

Crew rumours are that Tokyo may return.
Seoul is supposed to be coming too.
But who knows if this will all pan out..

Another factor is that journey times will be longer than before due to Russia closing its airspace to Western carriers following the war in Ukraine.

True that flights times would be a little longer, but - still a very lucrative route, if you can get it right.
I'm based in USA, so its of less personal benefit to me - still better to get to TYO direct from here, than schlep to London before onwards to TYO. But... I have close Japanese friends in London who still miss VS doing that route (and my ability to get them miles flights!)

I mentioned flight times because that would have a knock-on effect on aircraft utilisation and whether Tokyo would be worth it compared to say a trip that would see the aircraft back in the UK within a 24hr period. I recall that was one of the factors considered when they culled routes such as SYD about a decade ago. I agree the demand is there, but demand alone isn’t sufficient for those making the decision at VS HQ.
