Help with reward booking - transfers - what should I do?

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone much more knowligable than me in this forum can help.

I have the following flights booked (using Points) for a trip later this year:

DL1514 MIAMI - JFK (Arriving JFK at 18:45)
VS 46 JFK - LHR (Departing JFK at 20:01)

Since booking, I've had a look at my Flighty app, and the Miami to JFK flight is nealy always 45+ mins late. I'm very nervous about making this connection, I have a further onward flight to Belfast booked on BA.

What are my options (having booked with points), of changing this first flight from Miami to Orlando earlier in the day.Leaving Orlando would be more convenient.

Can I cancel and rebook this one segment? Could I even cancel this one segment and book separately with another carrier?

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Virgins reward flights are pretty simple to change ( if other availability available ) or cancel for a £30 fee but you need to call to do it.

Best to check out your options yourself and have the alternate flights (if there are any) details ready to tell the operator along with your card details

David.

Thanks David. Is there an easy way of telling if there is "points" availability on a delta internal flight?

Try a dummy reward booking using the VS website (website and call centre availability will be the same for DL reward flights).

If it is all one booking/PNR then you will have UK261 protection so if you do miss it due to a late flight, you will get duty of care (night in a hotel) and may be £520 for a late arrival.

If all booked on Delta, you would get nothing.

Thanks all, was able to make the change quite easily. Even with the protections, the hassle (Travelling with a child) wouldn't be worth it (albeit nice!)
