Do I try to upgrade with miles at the check-in desk or the ticket desk[?]
I have always upgraded with miles at the time of booking previously but these are non-upgradable cheapies, not looking forward to a seat down the back.[:(]:D

Previously it has been indicated that the Clubhouse is the best place as these are more likely to be VS staff and to understand the system a bit better!

I have a feeing that you don't stand a lot of chance wherever. I have tried to upgrade K's 4 times recently when UC is empty nearly and on every occasion been told no. - Non upgradeable etc etc.

Clubhouse out of london, and tickt desk overseas seems best IME

Cheers

Had success at the Ticketing Desk at LGW upgrading with miles. Checked in first at PE and the check-in girl was plainly not going to entertain suggestions for upgrading. Then again, they are outsourced at LGW so that may make a difference.

I'd go with the Ticketing Desk - they seem pretty helpful and knowledgable. I overheard the guy helping us asking his supervisor about fare classes, and she replied they were upgrading all classes. This was a very busy flight though. We may have been in K, we may have been in S. I'm not sure, but we were in S on the way back and couldn't get an upgrade at LAS because "they had just sold their last UC seat". Hmmm...[V]
