V-Flyer

We are going to be flying to London from South Florida with our daughter who will be 12 months old. We are currently planning on using VS MIA-LHR, which has the UC suites. We have several questions about this.

While the suites look very comfortable for one person, are they ok with a child on your lap? With the wall, it looks more confining than a traditional first class seat.

Is seats 6A/K the best choice for the trip over with the baby? Or should we pick something like 15D/G?

Do you need to sit in a particular seat to use either the skycot or infant care chair?

Will the skycots work with a 12 month old? Pictures?

What is an infant care chair? Pictures?

Our alternative is to fly Delta's BE, with the more traditional seats.

When we booked for jan next year, it was still the old UC seats, and ordered the infant care chair (rather like a infants car seat)for our 2 and a half year old.
When the flight changed to suites, I was told that the care chair is not suitable. Luckily he is old enough that the UCS will be fine for him on the way out and he will (hopefully) be asleep on the way back.
You only get the care chair AFAIK if you book a seat for the infant.

Last year when he was 18 months old, he sat on the arm between our two chairs (when the seat belt sign was off, see the cabin pictures on this site) and in either his mums or his dad's arms with the child belt when the seat belt sign was on.
On the way back, he slept in our arms, not the most comfortable, but adequate.
The year before, we used the Econ bulkhead seats with the bassinet (at 12 months, they are too big for it I think) but quite honestly, every time the set belt sign came on, you have to take the child out the bassinett and lock them onto your seat belt, so not a lot of use really.
I will dig out a picture if I can find it. They are not sturdy, as they are light and made of cardboard with a PVC covering.

For next year, I have chosen 6 A & K (and 7A) so that we have a closed area whare he is away from the rest of the pax, the seats are closer also for the little 'un, but again, that's because he has his own seat.

With the wall, he/she cannot fall onto the floor

I believe it has been reported here by VS Staffers that these devices are not available with the UCS, if you do a seach you should turn up some useful info.

As mentioned above, the infant care chair cannot be used with the Upper Class Suite.

The A340-600 has a skycot position in Upper Class. Some of the B747-400s also have one adjacent to seats 15D&G.

An extension seat belt can be provided to use in seat or bed mode. There is enough space for an adult and a 1 year old to sleep comfortably.
