Hi there

A relative of mine was bumped on a VS flight that he was taking for business and as compensation he got some Virgin Select vouchers. As it was a business trip and he doesn't plan any trips with VS usually (he travels enough for work!), he offered me to buy them/some of them from him at a price lower than their face value with VS.

I was thinking of using them as a way to get one sector in PE for cheap. My question, if anyone knows the answer, is: Are these select vouchers valid for any VS fare you find or is it restricted to high full fare classes only? Obviously if this was the case, the select voucher might only just bring down the price to the level of a low fare class and it wouldn't be worth my while.

I hope I explained myself ok. Basically as an example, if the flight I want costs £575 (web lowest price) and he sells me a £400 voucher for £200, is it as simple as knocking £400 off the £575 fare, or will I be told that select vouchers are only valid off the full published fare, which is £800 or something like that?!

Guessing they're unrestricted otherwise it's a bit of a white elephant compensation. Is there not small print on the voucher? For other examples see this link

A couple of colleagues flying with me to JFK were offered select vouchers a few years ago for taking a later flight - I got nothing as my seat was fine in Upper.

Select Voucher entitled person to an Economy roundtrip to any VS destination served by an actual VS plane, or 50,000k FC miles.

So if you are planning a trip to the East Coast of USA (exc Florida) then you can do a PE return (there would need to be availability in U class) - and your friend would need to credit the miles to his account and then book the ticket in your name.


Otherwise for the Economy roundtrip, you will need to ensure there is N or X class aviailability for the day (which are the two cheapest revenue fare classes) and route you want to travel - the Select vouchers can be transferred but they would require a letter from the person it was initially issued to to be submitted along with the Select voucher back to VS when the flights are booked.

One of the colleagues acquired the others Select voucher, and used them to fly to JNB - in return he paid for the other hotels whilst in NYC - so he was happy as he got over £1k of flights for a lot less - all for waiting a few extra hours (in the CLubhouse too!!)

Let me add some more clarity on this, just finished talking to Premier about Select:

- All routes except for DEL use X class availability for Select redemptions (DEL uses N) - if there is no availability in the class, VS will manually check to see if there have been any other Select voucher redemptions, if not they can overbook by upto 4 seats per flight for Select redemptions - this is subject to their discretion and will be controlled by Revenue Management.
