Upgrade if CPR trained

Hi

I am a nurse and just complete and update for my CPR training.

Our trainer told us that when checking in for a flight we should tell them that we are CPR trained and willing to help in a medical emergency and we should get an upgrade.

Is this true and how likely is it to happen?

Any feedback greatly appreciated

That's a new one - I suppose it is better than 'my Dad went to school with Richard Branson' ;)

Seriously, I have never heard of medical qualifications meaning that 'you should get an upgrade'. I think a gold card is still the best way.

But, as usual, I stand to be corrected, and am dusting off my certificates as I type :D

Hi binki,

The answer is no. Cabin crew are trained to various levels to assist with medical emergencies, and all the times I have been on a plane where they have requested for a doctor or nurse - they have come from Economy.

Reminds me of a sign I once saw in a pub, 'The bank manager doesn't serve beer, and we don't cash cheques.' - take the concept to the scenario of medical trainers and airline operations.

For the guide to upgrades - http://www.v-flyer.com/pages.asp?click=2&pageid=2

But basically unless you are a FC Gold member, your chances are slim, and even if you are, they are still not guaranteed - VS wants to keep its premium cabins exactly that.

Thanks,
Richard

Surely the line "I am acquainted with LRoM" would be sufficient to impress even the most junior of check in staff so as to secure the coveted upgrade[:o)][:o)]

Love the term 'Captain of Industry' - I remember it being mentioned in press articles regarding Cneturion, would hardly call me the captian of the industry... :)

But on a more serious note - wouldn't advise trying to use my name at a VS route as a tool for an upgrade. A few people have already tried this, and trust me, I was called by the relevant people at the airport asking if I knew who they were! Nowadays I tell the concierges in advance if my friends are travelling, and also that if anyone does use my name that its not one of my associates. Sad I know, but when you have 75,000+ people viewing this site each month, there are always a few that think they have found a way to the upgrade.

To set the record straight, if you want to fly in PE or Upper, then buy a ticket in that class - yes I have recieved a few upgrades in the last 6 years, but its not everytime and its when the flights are busy and I'm an obvious candidate (Flying CLub Gold and flying alone).

And anyway with the junior check-in crew its not upgrades I'm trying to secure, phone numbers on the otherhand.... :) Oh showing my age now....

Thanks,
Richard
