The Seat map facility is now back on VA website[8D]

However, it is still showing the same bizarre configuration for my LGW VS27 flight on 16 March - unrecognisable as any of the planes on this or the VA website. It goes like this:

U/C - rows 2 to 4 on upper deck (no PE shown) and rows 6 to 9 on main deck.

Then what appear to be PE seats in a 2:4:2 configuration go from row 17 to row 22.

Economy starts in row 25 with a 3:4:3 config.

Any theories?

Sounds like it must be a 747-200 with the small UD cabin but I can't understand the main deck layout?

VS Staffers, help needed please :)

I tried using the seatmap today.
Firstly my flight (LHR-LAX in April) doesnt show on 'my flights', I have to manually enter the e-ticket (purchased through Opodo), etc. It then locates the flight fine, and my FC number and special meal is all in there. However if I go back into the site it doesn't store the information under 'my flights'.
Clicked on the section to amend seat preference. It then says 'We're sorry. The seat map is not available at this time. Your seats will be assigned at check in.'
I then click on the link below for 'seating FAQs' which then doesn't answer why I can't use it for this flight.
Not very helpful at all.

The seating map described is the same as on the two 747 200 used from Manchester Honeypie and Island Lady. Small front section UC then PE where the flyer database shows remainder of UC

AndyK - I do most of my bookings through Amex and I'd noticed this failure to link to the booking and to store the information when it WAS found. I spoke to our nice Customer Service people and they indicated that it wouldn't be fixed any time soon [:(].

Ok .. i might be just tired, or too blind or both .. but where do i find the seat map on the VS website?
Could it be that i cannot see the seat map due to the fact that i already have seats assigned from VS ?

Once you have logged into 'your account' goto 'your flights'. Either pick your flight from the list or enter the details required to bring your flight up on screen. Then goto 'edit' at the bottom of that screen, this is where you will either be able to see the seat map or you will get a message saying something like 'we are sorry the seat map is not available...seats will be allocated at check-in'

This is the message I am getting for my April flights to LAX, I have already booked my seats so I don't know if that is the reason [:(]

thanks!

yay it works :)
didnt work before as i did click on "edit" both friday and sat. but it works now and i can see all the maps, including the upper deck.

P.S.: dont know why you are not able to see the seatmaps, but i've already booked my seats previously as well so i dont think that's the problem in you not being able to see the maps.

Pat,
Im having exactly the same problem with VS16 on the 17th of May from MCO, think there must be a glich somewhere as I dont think there are that many 747-200?? Must have the wrong seat map loaded for this route, though an interesting piont to note is that I couldnt book any of the seats on the top deck as they were all greyed out. Did you notice the same??

Perhaps they disabled it on my account because I was creating too much traffic by keep going in and just gazing at my reserved suites :D

I'm not too worried, I know my seats are booked and I'm on countdown now. If I do feel the need to gaze at my seat I can always use the maps on this site.

Cheers

I'm hoping that it is the wrong seat map loaded. I currently have PE seats on the upper deck reserved (rows 76,77) which obviously don't exist on the 747 200s.

Every seat was greyed out on the seat map - but according to the availability tool this flight looks full so maybe I wouldn't expect to see anything different.

One other thing has struck me about the seat map on VA for VS27 LGW/ MCO on 26 March apparently being for a 747-200 - and hopefully confirming it's just a mistake?

On the availability tool, this flight shows a 744 (747-400) which would be the usual LGW plane (although could be a non suite LHR plane[?]).

The flight has shown no availability in any class over the last 2 weeks. The capacity of the LGW 744s is 439 made up of 28 UC, 38 PE and 373 economy. Based on the VA seat map, the 742s look to have a capacity of only 412 (28:36:348)- i.e 27 less seats on what already appears to be a very full flight. (The LHR 744s have 10 less at 386 (48:32:306))

I know yesterday's VS27 didn't go for technical reasons, but does anybody know of any reason why Friday's flight should be on a 742?

The mystery has been solved. The 747-200s that Virgin lease have had a cabin revamp, and the new layout is now available in the seatmap section on VirginFlyer.

Just a post script to say that VS27/28 on 26/3 and 8/4 were operated by normal LGW 744s - Jersey Girl on the way out and Barbarella on the way back.
