Premium rate booking numbers

Just wondering if anyone knows a way to get around waiting for hours on the Virgin 0870 booking line number? I'm booking next year's holiday sometime this week and am fed up with getting a roasting from the bill payer (i.e. the old man!
) for running up huge amounts whilst waiting on the phone for Virgin to cost the next crazy trip.
I am a red flying club member and also a FVC member so not sure if there's another route in?
