I recently discovered that my prebooked seat for vs029 on 16/11/05 had been changed. Realised that it doesnt appear to be an LGW 747 but probably an LHR one. slightly concerned because I am booke PE and the LHR models have less PE seats. any thoughts?

If you are a revenue passenger, and you paid fully for your Premium Economy seat, that is exactly what you should get legally...I'm sure they won't mess you around. They are more likely to upgrade you to UC if there are no PE seats left on the aircraft.
Sometimes it is better to pre-allocate your seats the day before the flight on the VS website/DIY check-in, so then any tech issues are ironed out and you most likely will get the exact seat number you requested, 24 hours later when you check-in at the airport.

There are less PE seats but loads more UC seats so if there isn't enough room in PE, then there will probably be plenty of room in UC!!!!!!!!!!:D

Firstly I am sure this will work out fine for you.
I have been on many flights where people are actually 'downgraded'. Yep 'downgraded'. Peoples first reaction is that 'you can't do this I;ve oaid for my seat and I will have it' this quickly changes to either 'I'll wait for the next flight' or 'I will take the any seat as long as I travel'. I am sure that there is some kind of compensation offered for this when it happens, but with airlines, never bank on anything.

The VS034 from ANU to LGW has also been changed to a LHR 747 so I guess there will be lots of seat reasignment there too

Less PE more UC is a good thing as they will most likely offer upgrades - as this is cheaper than flying empty metal and putting pax on the next flight
